scoring 2 unearned run bottom of 4th on throwing error by Britt. Cal had chances top 4th with runners on 2nd &3rd and no outs. Next 2 batters KO'ed. Wish the batters tried to lay down bunts to get the runners home. Oh well ..next time. Ari pitching good game though in and out of trouble.

Nice win..especially with ARI throwing 5 inning and giving up only 1 earned runs. Cal pounded out 12 hits against their best pitcher Kenzie.

Big confidence booster for Ari going into the post-season. We'll need her in the regionals.
39-10; 15-6 in Pac-8 without Val. WOW!!!
Let's see how much respect we get tomorrow on Selection Sunday.

and yesterday, for that matter.
Cal had five hitters reach base on fourteen (14) occasions this afternoon:
#9 Elia Reid (3x), #1 Jamia Reid (2x), #2 Britt Vonk (4x), #3 Jace Williams
(3x) and #4Lindsey Ziegenhirt (2x). They struckout once between 'em.
The other four hitters struckout 9 times. Two freshmen, Ashley Decker & Victoria Jones, contributed with key hits & look like legitimate threats with the bat in their respective hands. Victoria Jones hit a grand slam way foul but still demands respect. Two batters failed to contribute to the dozen hit attack: Frani Echavarria had her best Pac 8 game last night (2 hits & 3 RBIs) but returned to norm in the regular season finale. She struckout three times in 3 official ABs with runners all over the bases plus walked. Jordan Wallace went a quiet 0-4 with 2 Ks...
Arianna Erceg did a great job on Arizona Senior Day with four seniors in their lineup. She yielded one earned run
(3 total) over five frames. She has really improved over the course of the season although Ninemire has given her uneven PT...She failed to strikeout a hitter, but for the most part, made the Wildcats swing the bat. Cal's defense acquitted itself well over the weekend overall with only a couple botched plays.
Cal finished the Pac Eight with a record of 15-6! The Bears swept UCLA (home), Oregon (home) & Oregon State (road). Cal also won series (2-1) against Stanford (home) & Arizona (road). The only two series losses (1-2) were early-the initial two-at home against #1 Arizona State & at Washington. The Bears had a chance to win both of those series, too, with the deciding game a nail-biter... The key is that Cal finished strong by winning the last five conference series heading into postseason. To defeat UofA on the road convincingly (w/ Kenzie Fowler pitching) after losing the opener in 10 innings in a "heartbreak" fashion, shows this team possesses a ton of "heart". It should breed confidence. UNBELIEVABLE !
With Val Arioto MIA, i would have to believe that Diane Ninemire will win Pac 8 COY. The only competition is ASU with their domination of the league & their #1 national ranking.
This is hopefully what Cal can aspire to next season! ASU will lose four seniors among their top six hitters in their batting order. Next season is when Cal will peak with four seniors starting (possibly five)...GO BEARS!
