Love the show and like any reality series, they certainly show portions that are interesting or don't give all perspectives.

However, from what it appears, former trojie McKnight making the team while former trojie Washington making the practice squad did not seem right. The show had Washington making plays and McKnight fumbling ... I think maybe at least once each preseason. So she went to check it out. She went to the Western Wall and there he was, walking slowly up to the holy site.

She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, using a cane and moving very slowly, she approached him for an interview.

"Pardon me, sir, I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. What's your name?

"Morris Feinberg," he replied.

"Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?"

"For about 60 years."

Former Bear Je'Rod Cherry auctioned his SB ring for charity. Very cool.

Defensive back and special-teams player Je'Rod Cherry raffled his ring for charity in 2008. He said the ring raised $171,000 to build orphanages in Thailand and Cambodia, save children from sex trafficking there and feed impoverished children in Massachusetts and Ohio.

"A lot of people got help," Cherry said. "Children were taken out of brothels and given homes to live in. It's definitely something I'm proud to be a part of."

Because I grew up in Berkeley, and first became aware of Cal Football when Pappy Waldorf was the coach - and when QB Paul Larson was my childhood hero - it was a great pleasure to meet Hanifan.

When I mentioned Larson to Hanifan - he proudly responded, "He was MY quarterback."

In addition to seeing his grandson work out, he's also in town for the annual meeting of Pappy's Boys, guys who played for Pappy Waldorf - and who became (as a group and individually) important supporters of Cal Football over the years.

Hanifan is distinctly "grandfatherly" now, a friendly smile and a handshake for everybody. He worried just a bit about Hinder having to take a redshirt - and perhaps being a bit disappointed at that. I reminded him of the experience of quarterback Kyle Boller who came in insisting that he was ready to play in his freshman year - only to candidly (to his credit) admit in later years that he had been wrong. There's a lot of growing up that goes on in those years.

I happen to agree with grandfather Hanifan that Hinder is a real talent. Though this is not a present concern, I already look forward to seeing Hinder in real competition for the job next spring.
