I know you are busy so I'll keep this short. Have been to a couple of Pali games this fall and there is a kid named Austin Applegate, a fullback, and he is a stud. I think he's worth a look and maybe has already has had one. Don't know anyone in our recruitment program so thought I'd pass it on to you as a well connected Pali alum. Nice article in this weeks Post (11/1). Online, it's Palisadespost.com. Maybe silly but this guy has almost single handedly turned the Dolphins program around this fall.
    Thanks

Hope I don't bore you with my occasional update on Pali football. There is pretty much nothing but good news. The new Coach, Perry Jones, is a hustler and I mean that in the good sense of the word. The whole atmosphere surrounding the program has changed. When I attended their first game this fall I bought a glossy sort of intro to Pali football program with great info on the team, but perhaps more importanatly, a ton of ads from the community and families of the players.
The cheerleaders and song girls were trained and organized wherein past years they pretty much just wandered around. Even the concessions were better. The team has a facebook page, a twitter account et. al. The team's part of the Pali Web page is excellant.
The Coach told each player that he had to come up with $200 for the team, though I know through a teacher friend that there were exceptions. He challenged the families and the kids to find a way. Go to your neighbors, mow lawns, sell cupcakes, whatever. The goal was $25K and I heard they came close. I only made it to 3 games, but it was once again fun. They ended 5 and 5 for the season, a great improvement over the past few years and will be playing Lincoln in the Div II playoffs this Friday night. Darn, I have a conflict. Big Game. Anyway it was a far better year for the Dolphins this year.

    Hi Alex:
I checked Mountaingate CC for our annual SoCal Grid Club meeting and the news was all good.
I incur no charge hosting an event since I am a club member. There is a charge for food and drink. Since they have a bar we can make it "no host" or "host." If the latter, then we need contribution at the door from attendees. The food offered can be sliders, hot food of various kinds, all good. Again, we need some contribution.
There are two areas within M'Gate dining to hold the event: the first is called the "R Bar," which is the bar region. Its principal section can hold 40 persons legally, but there is an additional adjacent area that can hold probably 20 more. There are two flat screen TVs able to hold DVDs in the R Bar. In the alternative, we can also use the main dining room which can hold up to 150. Don't know whether the flat screens can be removed and transported to that area which is adjacent to the R Bar. But, of course, a portable screen if available can be used. It is a nice atmosphere...don't know if you have ever been at M'gate?
The woman I spoke to said it should be no problem setting something up in February, since tournaments are minimal at that time. She recommended either Monday or Tuesday or Friday night as good times for the Club.
    Let me know your thoughts.
    Best Regards,
    DG (6bear6)

WIAF: Earlier this month in a thread started by Greg Richardson about being Bearish on the Bears you asked me to give my opinion either publicly in the thread or in a pvt msg to you if I wanted.

The bottom line is that my passion for Cal Football has gradually diminished over the past 3 seasons. Some if it has to do with the W/L record and the inconsistent passion the players seem to have for the game. The primary reason, however, is this. Despite being a donor, a former player, and a former season ticket holder when I lived in the Bay Area, I have been made to feel less and less a part of the Cal Football Family. This is primarily because of the policies instituted by JT regarding coverage and openess of the program and his disdain for fans who dare to question his decisions. I feel more like a distant uncle of the program who is tolerated only because he might send some dollars to the program.

It would be most interesting to see a survey with the question: Do you feel more a part of the Cal Football Family today than you did 3 years ago? I don't think Sandy would like the majority of answers to that question.

It seems to me that last fall sometime that you said Pali football would get a good surprise. Was that for this fall and is it still top secret? Or did I miss the surprise last fall?
