I'm hoping you'll do an analysis of our run defense against PSU in the first half vs. the second half. What adjustments were made?
With the score tied 7-7 in the 1st quarter, PSU gets the ball back with about 13 min. remaining. They use an unbalanced formation with two WR and two standup TE to one side, and an uncovered (eligible?) OT to the weak side of the formation. They used it to great success and perhaps this is what caught Buh off guard. Our guys seemed to be lined up one gap "wrong", to the weak side of the formation. I'm hoping you'll break down this formation in particular.
Also, the PSU line uses cut blocks to great effect. Not sure why our guys keep falling for it (literally). Do we do this?
Really good post. Couple of things I have been interested in and cannot seem to find anything on are the o-line splits- the La Tech splits appear narrower than those in say a Leach offense and been wondering what their thinking is on that. The other is I am a big down and distance guy and what coverage can you expect the defense to be in given down and distance. I have not tracked it, but just my casual observation is that Sonny/Franklin's tendencies to run more on " passing downs " and go for it on fourth down break all the rules and exploit traditional coverage calls. Anyway, great post. Glad someone is as interested in this stuff as me and is technologically savvy enough to demonstrate it. I can barely type. Thanks again. Slotright20
Breaking down dykes offense is an incredible post.
