Wow. Great find. If he was able to attend one of the those special swim center ceremonyg he has to be impressed with all of the Olympians attending the event!

    John Thomas Larsen -------------> Texas

Minn #1, Nat #23 IM specialist.

Surprising Sean Grieshop still has committed to Texas. Wonder if there is still an outside chance that he would go outside of Texas...like Cal?

    2. Sean Grieshop – Nitro Swimming – St. Dominic Savio Catholic Sigh School – Austin, TX
    Best Times: 1650 free – 14:45.40, 500 free – 4:15.53, 400 IM – 3:44.30, 200 IM – 1:46.58, 200 free – 1:36.52, 200 breast – 1:58.85

Right after our whole spiel about sprints over distance, and we’re ranking distance specialists at 2 and 3. But when your class features the junior world record-holder in the 400 IM (long course), you don’t sleep on him. Grieshop is already at NCAA scoring level in the mile and the 500 and extremely close in the 400 IM. Beyond that, he’s one of the class’s best 200 IMers and could still be a relay factor with some development in his 200 free.

Great haul so far for Durden. Had hoped for Julian and never dreamed Grieshop would go anywhere but UT, but neither are likely. Julian's parents both were All-Americans at 'SC and dad now on staff.

Condoms did get another Euro commie, but this one writes more like Boris Badenov than Thomas Jefferson. May be a Russian Wikileaks hacker hosing Teri in SwimSwam comments.

After Sean Grieshop Verbal, Cal Has Commitments from #1-2-11-16

The number 2 recruit on our list of top 20 boys from the high school class of 2017, Sean Grieshop of Cedar Park, Texas, has made a verbal commitment to swim at the University of California, Berkeley next year. A senior at St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School, Grieshop swims for Nitro Swimming in Austin and specializes in distance free and IM.

Already within scoring distance in the 500/1650 free and not far off in the 400 IM, Grieshop will be an immediate impact player for the Golden Bears. He is the Junior World Record-holder in the 400m IM, having taken down Brandonn Almeida’s (a recent verbal commit to South Carolina) world mark in prelims at U.S. Olympic Trials with 4:14.00. Grieshop now stands at #4 all-time among 17-18s in the event.

A member of the U.S. National Junior Team, Grieshop has represented Team USA at numerous international meets, including most recently at the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup this past week. He also wore the stars and stripes at Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships this past summer, and at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships in Singapore where he upset Almeida to win the 400m IM. He was also part of the American 4x200m free relay that broke the Junior World Record at that meet.

Grieshop won the 200/500/1000/1650y free and 400y IM at 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors West and was runner-up in the 200y breast and 200y IM; he put up lifetime SCY bests in the 200/500/1000 free, 200 breast, and 200/400 IM.

    Best times:

    • 1650 free – 14:45.40
    • 500 free – 4:15.53
    • 400 IM – 3:44.30
    • 200 IM – 1:46.58
    • 200 free – 1:36.52
    • 200 breast – 1:58.85

The University of California, Berkeley class of 2021 is beginning to look particularly solid. So far, it consists of verbal commits Bryce Mefford, Daniel Carr, Jackson Gabler, James Daugherty, Jarod Hatch, and Ryan Hoffer, in addition to Grieshop.

I just did not see us having a chance since he lived in the shadow of UT! Now we can have serious strengths through most events. Funny, a while back on "SWIMMING.COM" they listed Grieshop to UCLA which flabbergasted me as UCLA does not have a Mens S&D team!

So after watching this week Stanford's loaded distance swimmers clobbering us (albeit Norman did not swim in the meet), I think this will at least make us more competitive with them. No doubt. Yuri will have 2 elite distance men and they will need coaching to keep improving. Are we now out of scholarships?

I had hoped this would happen but wasn't sure. I watched Lifetime TV's "Gold Medal Families" this summer (definitely recommend if you are into the human aspects of Olympic hopefuls; you can get it on Amazon Video). The show filmed Grieshop and his family on the road to Olympic Trials, and focused on the weeks preceding the Atlanta Classic meet in May. His parents moved from El Paso to Austin so that he could train at Nitro (similar story to Will Licon, currently a Texas senior). Even when discussing the meet, Grieshop mentioned that the Texas swimmers would attend, while his mom responded by saying that Cal and Stanford would also be there.

The main difference between Grieshop and Licon's trajectories, which might have been expected to be the same, was that Nitro's coach was forced to resign during the period over which the show was filmed (after that conversation with his mom). That was a big plot twist, and his parents thought about moving again, etc. (When Licon was making the college decision four years ago, the coach was still there and had a great relationship with UT.) Anyway, the point is that he and his parents put as their #1 goal to get to the Olympics and win an individual gold medal (he's probably not fast enough at this stage to be on the free relays). His college visits were all geared towards that, and in the end, it must have been the Cal swimmers' individual medal success in Rio that tipped the scales. Plus, it probably didn't hurt that Prenot and Haeberle were also at the Tokyo and Hong Kong World Cup stops (with the junior team, as we have discussed over on the women's swimming threads).

Welcome everyone in the incoming c/o 2017!

Amazing get and a huge pleasant surprise. Consecutive monster classes and Durden's sights squarely on that big ass cow Bevo.

Durden doesn't like to lose, but he's not too stressed about dual meets even LSJU. Team's built to win NCAA titles sooner rather than later.

Actually, this is probably more necessary than anyone thought. Texas got a huge verbal commit from c/o 2017 Jordan Windle (from Duke Diving Club, as we've previously discussed with Callahan). Easily one of the top 4 divers in the U.S. That means Texas has a 50+ point scorer from half a qualifying slot at NCAAs. We needed to catch up with swimming recruits that can also score big points at NCAAs.
