There was a "hidden" class or whatever you want to call it that our academic guys didn't pick up that the ucla coach found when digging through his transcripts.

yeah. "hidden". a class that USC, Cal and others that saw his transcript couldn't find, but hey McClure found. more power to the bRuins. we could sure have used Takk.

Our academic guys were actually wrong?

Why that's preposterous. It's unheard of. This is Cal. Surely it cannot be. Not in a million years.

Lazy boys, yes, maybe academic bean-counting clowns, but dumb azses? Shameful.

    no, mcclure just out-hustled others.

McClure discovered though an examination of McKinley’s transcripts that he had never been credited for two high school classes he took over the summer at a junior high school. But for the NCAA to verify the legitimacy of those classes, McClure had to procure letters from McKinley’s high school superintendent, principal and registrar explaining their summer school system. He also had to obtain the actual grade books from McKinley’s two classes.

McClure contacted a high school football coach he knew in the area who was also Facebook friends with the teachers from those classes. They submitted the required documents and, two months later and three games into UCLA’s 2014 season, the NCAA cleared McKinley to play for the Bruins.

Wonder where he stands on getting his degree? It's not just about going to Div 1 school for FB but he needs to honor his grandma with a diploma!

I don't think Ucla found anything

Really disappointing by the former staff:

In the end, it would take one other person to help Takk make it to D1 football: Angus McClure. The UCLA defensive line coach took a hard look at Takk's transcripts in the summer of 2014 and saw a discrepancy that others had missed. Summer school classes he'd taken were improperly determined to be middle school courses. The grades should have counted. McClure passed the paperwork to his compliance department, which concurred. The rest was a months-long process in which Takk and McClure obtained letters from Kennedy's principal and tracked down teachers to verify the grades and explain the mix-up.

You're talking Kennedy HS and the WCCUSD. Notoriously both incompetent AND crooked. I know a rich scion who had a 3.1 at a WCCUSD HS, and was admitted to Yale. His HS records disappeared soon after.

There is another example that I know of where an early WCCUSD HS recruit was dropped by Cal, picked up and subsequently dropped by USC for grades, who moved onto Norte Dame. Amazing how these heartwarming stories are spun.

Well bottom line UCLA found a way to get it done and Takk wasn't even as crucial a recruit to them with all their superstars as he was for us.
