Is the defense tackling, getting physical? Yeah, it's only Day 1 but it's football and they have a lot to learn and unlearn.

Works for me. Anyone want to take a stab at the 3 dline starters?

    Looney, Mekari, Bequette???
Gonna need these guys to have some size. We don't have a ton of it.

Looking at the pictures of the football staff, it makes me shake my head but at the same time have more confidence with our defense that our DL coach wears a t-shirt for the official picture.

Looney is so much better suited as a 3-4 DE

Be careful what you wish for. A lot of people were mad at Tedford for being so secretive, and loved Dykes for opening practices up. We know how that worked out.

The guys at CGB were discussing this on their podcast. I don't think that Dykes' open practices had anything to do with his failures at Cal. He was a mediocre football coach, but the stuff he did off the field, including open practices (and excepting the interviews), seemed generally positive.

Perhaps not, but if your coaching lacks attention to detail, and I think Dykes' did, you probably don't care who sees what you're doing. Of the last two coaches, it was the anal retentive one who was more successful.

Zendae Johnson has added some weight and is listed as 6'4 280 now, after limited PT as a RS frosh. He seems like a candidate to be in the DL rotation although more likely tackle than inside.
