    Talk with Wyking

Spoke with Wyking at a function last night. He's very impressive one-on-one as well as in front of a mike. A couple of things stood out. He's obviously committed to Cal and (if successful) likely to make a long-term commitment. He said that there will be an announcement regarding recruiting next week; probably 2 players and sounded like not freshmen. He said we need kids who can play right away. He was very bullish on recruiting, saying Theo could "lock down" the Bay and NorCal, he's covering SoCal, and with Walker on board, they intend to recruit nationally.

btw, speaking of Theo, a bit of gossip: Theo is now sporting braces to fix the gap in his front teeth. Wyking allowed as how he wasn't sure it was a good idea: "it might hurt him with the ladies; they seem to go for that gap..."

Thanks for sharing. I have not met Wyking, but there is just something about him that strikes me the right way.

2 players? Not freshmen? Cal could really use a couple of good transfers. I am ok with a poor 2017-2018 season if they can bring in a couple of quality regular transfers to sell to the 2018 recruiting class. About the only thing they can announce is transfers if they are not freshmen. I am hopeful what he says about Theo and Walker is accurate. I like Wyking. Building a program can take time, but with the number of slots available for this current recruiting cycle (2017 and 2018) things can improve quickly if they can close on some key players.

We all know Theo and recognize the gap without recognizing it. Like, I never thought of it until you mentioned it, but, yeah. Perhaps as Theo develops his brand nationally he figures it would work better long term. Understandable.

If there is anything a Cal fan has, is time. Even if we individually run out of time to see the next Rose Bowl or BB national championship, on the other side we won't have to worry about having access issues to the Pac12 network. It all works out in the end. Stay true....stay blue!

we sure can use a couple of athletes who can hit from behind the arc. 3's needed.

    One other thing Wyking mentioned:

He definitely sees Winston as a pg. He said that he could play "some" 2, because he can "fill it up from outside," but he has a point guard's mentality. btw, he will come into Cal with a couple of college credits--serious student.

Cal isn't for everyone, but Winston's appreciation of Berkeley's academic excellence does show there are top athletes who also value academics to whom Berkeley would appeal.

With the right coaching staffs, Cal will find its niche. Smart kids who can ball. Ballers who are smart.

Agreed, but hard to find first off. Then everyone wants them, secondly, as everyone needs APR help with FB and BB....Competition tough.

Well, even if we don't have that much time, the university still keeps pumping out thousands annually to replace us.
    So...

Someone should introduce Theo to Michael Strahan or Anthony Anderson, who also has a gap in their front teeth.
