Wow if he works out as well as our last Murray that played Cal hoops, we're gonna be fine. Sounds like "upside" is a good term for him. Comparison to John Wall, wow. But I've tempered comparisons ever since someone hailed JA as the White Michael Vick. Howd that turn out for you?
Kinda reminds me of Jerryd Bayless. I'll take that!
"I'm a little late on the is one.
Emerson has all the game it takes to play D1. He was the leader on his B.C. Provincial winning high school team while in grade 11. He was a 1st team all-star (and many felt the tourney MVP over Kelly) and will be (along with a healthy Mike Lewandowski) one of the two most individually dominant players in BC in 2009-2010 at least in my (sometimes not) so humble opinion.
His game would be akin to, god I hate to say it, A-I....he can hurt you from anywhere on the floor...he has the speed and control to take it to the hoop but can also hit a pull up jumper for 2 or 3 at the drop of a hat. He is creative and extemely fun to watch and his atleticism allows him to play whatever the defense gives him.
He was invited to the U19 tryouts at age 17 and I do not think it was his ability or maturity that kept him off the team, only his age as he will get another chance to play U19 in 2 years.
Emerson will play D1; it's just a matter of where.
In the FWIW category, he comes from the same high school (St. Georges) as Bol Kong though his history, his present and his future are are lot less mysterious.
Rivals and ESPN had nothing on him.. Scout didn't rate him, but gave him a good write up. 24 points per game, 8 rebounds,5 assists, 3 steals. Looks like a good get for us, if the story is accurate.
video of the 2009 All-Canada All-Star Game. This game had legit D-1 Talent (Mangisto Arop, Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson, Brady Heslip, Maurice Walker, Kelly Olynyk, Junior Cadougan, etc.)
Murray is #31 in black.
(0:45) He gets blown by while guarding Marquette's 2009 recruit Junior Cadougan here. Not a terrible thing, it just looks like he got caught looking for a ball screen.
(3:00) Hits a three off a swing pass. Gets good elevation on jumper.
(3:10) Makes a nice baseline drive. Finishes with his left hand. Good athletic play.
(3:42) Makes a 3/4 court drive. Shows a solid handle and finishes shot.
Sounds good. I like the idea of a PG with some size.. I haven't been able to watch the vids here at work but the general tone of the articles and posts sounds positive. There are now a lot of back court options availalbe to Monty. It would be great to see a skilled big be the next add...
Some articles from that site on Murray:
sounds like he was identified earlier by several Pac 10/West schools, but for what ever reason the interest didn't lead to much...perhaps the ankle injury and canada location worked against him.
Regarding the videos posted in this discussion:
the team he paid against in that video is not a high level team. looks like there are no players over 6-3 on either team, but it does show his shooting, ball handling, strength and athleticim
best video is the one linked by Tsubamoto. His defensive fundamentals aren't great, but that was an allstar game so it probably doesn't mean much. It does show him playing the 1
I would definately caution against any kind of Wall comparison. It's like anyone from Germany will be compared to Dirk
I like what I see! Can handle the ball very well, and is extremely athletic. Seems like he also has a pretty decent shot. Far and away looks better than Smith! I would play him at the point from the start, have Jorge at the 2, and Crabbe at the 3. Jorge can shift to the point for a bit with Rossi and Franklin putting in some time at the 2. Smith and or Franklin could spell Jorge and put in a few minutes to bide time at the point. MSF and Kamp to start up front with Solomon and Max coming in. I can also see some times where Solomon might put in a few minutes at the 3. Should be a fun team to watch.
