    F--- basketball

    we're a swim school!

Congratulations to the Aqua-Bears. Men's swimming won the national championship today. Men's and Women's swimming have swept the NCAA championship for the 2nd year in a row! Hamilton and Shields going 1-2 in the 200 fly clinched it for Cal. Shields was Swimmer of the Meet.

    Go Bears!

    To that add

women's softball, men's crew, men's rugby, women's tennis-----wow, we might take the country club champs label from our junior uni friends on the peninsula.

Is it easier to recruit swimmers, including internationals than basketball players?

Well, there's a hell of a lot less competition. Not that many serious DI swim programs but 300+ in basketball..
    Access is better than ownership!

Swimming is becoming bigger, though. Most of the usual suspects now have big-time programs: Auburn, Michigan, Georgia, USC, 'furd, Indiana, 'zona, etc., etc.

This is mostly a tribute to our coaches. Teri McKeever is hands down the top women's coach in the country if not the world, and Dave Durden has proven to be one of the best in the nation (remember when Sandy Barbour was vilified for hiring him?).
