Valerie hits another long one. Now 10-2 after 4. If she can hold them next inning mercy rule will be in effect.

11-3 final in 5 due to mercy rule. Bears like the thin air as they hit 5 more homers. Second game in about 30 minutes.

Strange they took their best pitcher (nelson) out after the 1st inning even though all 6 runs were unearned. Guess they probably are saving her for the 2nd game.

    Baseball Cal 11, Utah 3 (5 innings-mercy rule).

Val yielded three earned runs in five innings with only two strikeouts but she didn't have to be perfect on this day. The Bear offense exploded for five homeruns by different players and won going away...The Utes pulled their ace after one inning so she'll start in the nitecap of the double-header.

We could win the conference in a runaway.

Except for ASU, all of the teams chasing us already have at least 3 losses while we are undefeated. We don't play ASU till the last series, but we get them @ home. They pressure is on ASU to keep winning to stay within a game or two of us, and hope we lose a couple or three conference games in a row..

They way I look at it, if the furdies women's hoop team can dominate conference and go 18-0, why can't we do the same?

We go 27-0 in this conference, and that would make us one of the greatest women's softball teams in the history of the NCAA.

Baseball One game at a time, ccajon!

Cal is a tight game in the nitecap w/ a 3-1 lead. Utes had homerun threat, Whitney Holm, up with a runner in scoring position but she popped up. Cal scored runs via the long ball: Breana Kostreba (solo) & Ashley Decker (2 rbis).
Decker hit a long bomb to leftcenter and is doing an amazing job for spot duty. Britt Vonk is sitting out the nitecap and Kostreba is the DH. Decker is the starter in RF...

Utes TIE UP THE GAME, 3-3, with three hits off of Jo in the fourth inning. She has yielded a homerun, double & single. This is the potential emotional letdown game as the getaway game for Easter. Both of the other games were one-sided mercy rule contests so how do the Bears get up for the finale. Both Arioto (1st game) & Henderson (2nd game) have yielded three earned runs...GO BEARS!

FlashingScriptCal Cal reponds with 9 runs in 5th & 6th innings to break open tie game...

Bears win their third consecutive mercy rule decision-this one a six inning affair-12-3. Cal answered Utah's tying of the game at 3-3 after four frames, with four & five runs, respectively, in the fifth & sixth innings. The Bears battered Ute ace, senior Generra Nielsen, who entered the game with a 1.69 ERA. Cal had all nine starters contribute hits to their attack. Nielsen lasted 5 two-thirds IP, yielding 12 hits and 11 earned runs. The Bears registered three homeruns (Decker, Kostreba & Hendu) and two doubles (Jace Williams) against her... Catcher Victoria Jones welcomed the relief pitcher with a bases-loaded triple! Jolene Henderson settle down and finished another complete game effort while allowing six hits and three runs. She struckout six Ute hitters over the six innings pitched. Another errorless game by the blue 'n gold defense, too!

This is Cal's third consecutive series sweep-two on the road-to begin the Pac Nine campaign. Unbelievable. National softball power, Arizona, trips to Berkeley next weekend. The Wildcats appear to be getting it together. UofA just took two of three from #4 Washington in Seattle: wins (2-0 & 5-3) and a loss (5-7). It should be another enjoyable series. GO BEARS!
