Big 12 coaches tried to squeeze NIU out of Orange Bowl!

Very Mack Brown-esque, although he apparently wasn't one of the coaches trying to gerrymander this deal:

So should the coaches' interns vote with self interest or have some ethics? Let's ask Mack Brown about that one.

Funny that people were so offended about Lane Kiffin lying about his vote - his vote wasn't even that far off from what the AP or other coaches thought (at the time) - and he had to give up the vote, but not you have coaches essentially cheating, which is far far worse.

Who wouldn't have seen it coming? It was obvious in 2004 that there were conflicts of interest and it's obvious now

It isn't just a conflict of interest, but coaches have no idea how to rate teams other than the ones they play. That means, even if you toss out coaches with no ethics, all votes in the coaches' poll come from either coaches who don't have a clue about teams other than the ones they play, or flunkies of coaches who are still probably less qualified than most people on this board to figure out how to rank FBS teams across the nation.

The coaches' poll has always been a joke, it has been worse since it became a big element of the BCS, because a lot of coaches have decided it is OK to throw honesty out the window in their polls, and the only good news is that 2 years from now, its influence will be greatly diminished.

With millions of dollars at stake to the conferences and schools affected, it is essentially necessary for them to do this to compete and survive.

This is a huge deal for NIU. Think of what would have happend to our program if Mack Brown wasn't successful in his efforts in 2004.

We would have built a statute of Tedford. And been thrilled to do it. It would have been the greatest Cal football experience for the team, for students, and for alums during the lifetime of at least 2/3 of us.

Any chance the big wigs played with some numbers to sneak NIU into the BCS to make Cal fans look like complete @ssholes? As if we don't already? We have no more room for insult on this injury.
