O'Dowd has a "big" target, right?

Great image quality, but choppy as all get out.
Did not see much of the game, but of what I saw, I felt very good about us getting J. Bird.....Not a game or ball hog at all. He seems to lay back quietly, and then attacks when the opening presents. Does not seem to need to start out and go for highlights...Very much plays within himself...Was not there at the end, and do not know game stats, but I would not be surprised if he was not the high scorer....Very impressive...Certainly not a head case.

you can fast forward timeouts, halftime, etc......
so, if you have not see Bird play other than the vid clip 2 minute highlight reels... this is good game to view his skills... Taft is one of the top schools in SoCal...so, comp is pretty good...
Here is today's schedule

Click here now and you can watch the 2nd half of Salesian, who is winning 25-17 over Francis-Parker, and will win. But Bird is frustrated in the first half. Only 2 points on an easy layp. Shaking his head and frustrated with missed inside shots and no foul calls, looks like to me. Spent some decent time on the bench chilling (not foul trouble). We'll see how he does in the 2nd.
Dunk show right now at halftime.

I'll be honest in saying that I didn't watch the second half closely. But bird came out determined to get his, starting by an attempt to take his man off the dribble at the elbow extended. Defender stuck reasonably well and bird spun and rose into a pull up. Could have been deemed a bit wild but at the last moment bird passed to a guard who had inside position under the basket, who was fouled upon receiving the pass. Thus, bird showed determination, vision, unselfishness rather than out of control selfishness.
A bit later he got a dunk on a baseline back door alley oop. I also saw he got an easy layup or two. He made another very nice assist that was unselfish. I can't recall that one but it was better than the aforementioned play.
I don't know how many points he had, but they didn't need him. I think he draws a good amount of attention and Salesian has enough other good players that they can take what the defense offers. If bird were to force things, it would be inappropriate.
I have heard about him being a good outside shooter but didn't see him take any outside j's. I missed the first and fourth qtrs and much of the third. And it was on a small screen, so this was a somewhat meaningless game, not his best but so what. Francis Parker couldn't score and it wasn't a contest. Maybe 56-36?
Two more games in this tourney and good competition from here on out.
Anyone can watch. Just click on the top thread link and choose game. You may have to look at the schedule, which gets updated. Nice tourney format. Nice broadcasting option. Gotta love the net's new features for this sort of thing.
Rabb's O'Dowd team lost their 2nd (of 4) round game. It was easily within grasp. Neither team could score in the fourth. The winning team had some tall (fat?) center who could guard Rabb inside so O'Dowd didn't go to him much at all. Saw him get one put back, and receive 2 passes at the elbow high post during the time I watched, last five mins. One got picked from the back side guard as Rabb held ball out and didn't realize the danger. The other simply got passed back out.
There was no turn and face into triple threat position either time. I see he's listed as #2 nationally for 2015, but otherwise, he just looked like a really tall sophomore to me. What is he? 15? Just a baby. I think we on this blog, okay, ME, get to reading these recruiting reports, we watch a few one and dones like Derek rose or Kevin Durant or the like, we think some savior is going to walk into our gym and instantly lead us to the promised land. Well, I saw just a bunch of weak (compared to d1college) high school basketball. Like I said, the team that beat Rabb didn't make a single bucket in the fourth. It was only free throws and they missed a lot too. The door was wide open for O'Dowd but they couldn't score either. My god, what did my high school team look like? What did I look like back then?
Conclusion: bird will be better when the floor gets spaced with d1 teammates, less crowded. Same with Rabb, plus 3 more years of development. 6'8" as a 15 year old? My goodness! I did see once where his hands were right at the rim for a rebound and it didn't even look like he jumped. Only in my dreams.
thanks for your analysis.
