Deb Maier 11th in Finals! - 11-21-2011, 09:41 AM

Cal Bears, Deborah Maier improved from last yr's 30th pl to 11th place. With about 500meters to go she took a temporary lead but couldn't maintain it as she faded to 11th place. Great run for her. Unknown at this time where the team placed but unofficially Georgetown won the team competition edging out UDUB by 8 pts. Congrats to Deb & the team for a terrific season!!!!

See you guys during the indoor season..and Go Bears!!

Great run by Maier!
She was in a pack of 8 and actually leading with 1k left in the race.
Reid and Hasay went toe-to-toe with 300m left in a sprint.
Defending Villanova Champion Reid pulled away from Hasay with about 80m left.

Cal Women Finish 18th Overall

Cal's Chelsea Reilly was 24th
Taylor Brysun was 125th
Taylor Dutch was 176th
Kelsey Santisteban was 179th
Karhu 197th
Kohl 228th

It was really disappointing for UDUB. Watching the live streaming Wash thought they had won the team title and was celebrating prematurely. Guess they were only comparing their score to Villanova & FSU but only to have Georgetown nose them out! Tough to compete for 3 high level meets in a row -Pac12, Regionals, and then Championship. Entire team need to be congratulated for their season.

Looks like our top 4 runners are seniors (though I believe Maier if she choose will have 2 track seasons left) , so we will be rebuilding XC for 2012. People will have to step up big time. Didn't see any early signing like in the other sports. Some local big H.S. fishes ie verdon chose to go to Colorado, and lots others are underclassmen.

An exciting day, indeed for the Cal women. Deb and Chelsea ran very impressive races, all of them did.
