Just saw this on sfgate. I know Joe has been bumping around the FB minor leagues.

Didn't know he was into paper airplanes as well.

Was that his longest throw ever? LOL.

A friend told me last night that Ayoob is now working as a marketing rep for a beer company.

Wasn't he on the field throwing planes during a home game last year?

Nice, he always seemed like a good kid despite his football abilities (which were ok, just not for a D1 school). Glad to see he's having success in his career and with his hobbies. He's actually quite good at tossing those planes, that was a serious launch and straight as an arrow.

I am reminded of my days in Unit II, Ehrman Hall, when a few of us made a lot of paper airplanes out of discarded green bar paper from the computer labs. We had a contest to see who could fly the farthest. You should have seen the glare from the janitor who was sent up to the roof of the dining commons to clean up from our competition. I think we may have even gotten the finger when we continued to fly them even after he was already cleaning up.

That was in 1976. The statute of limitations for littering is up, isn't it?

A ten yard completion on the other hand was too much to ask for.

How about Bartkowski? - 02-29-2012, 03:49 PM

They should let Steve Bartkowski try this. He had the strongest arm, bar none, of any Cal quarterback ever. There was a story he could throw a football from end zone to end zone, over 100 yards.

Even at his age, he could probably throw that plane right through the wall at the other end of the hanger.

Aside from having the most comprehensive article on the throw:

http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/story/...paper-airplane

ESPN also did a video analysis of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baYZEvjIlu0

So I applaud ESPN for taking an interest in the backstory and the technical aspects of trying to achieve a world record.

In marked contrast, read this article by a self-hating Cal grad:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...-airplane-toss

Talk about trying to be snarky but suffering from a complete lack of wit. This is the level of writing you expect to see at the high school level—or, apparently, the Bleacher Report.
