Jags didn't have a 4th round pick.

On the Jags board, everybody didn't like Harris. Too old.

And some there pointed out that the Jags didn't have much success picking 3rd rounders, so maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to go with a sure thing.

I haven't followed his stats, but if the Jags were so desperate to get a punter they picked one in the top 75 picks, well, it sure says something.

He had one of the worst averages per punt in the league last year

Jags should have traded down and picked Anger in the 4th.

Shane Lechler is 35 which is 2 years older than Harris. And he has made the Pro Bowl the last 5 years

Again, Gin, they didn't have a 4th round pick. They believed Anger was going to absolutely be gone by the time their 5th round pick came up, so they nabbed him. Was it too early? Probably, but they had to get him then or not at all.

With the new CBA it would also be cheaper to draft a new punter than to pay a 10+ year veteran the league minimum he would be owed. It also doesn't hurt to have a younger more athletic guy with a booming leg.

Hours after Anger was picked I visited their dozen-plus page thread on him. It's now at 29 pages.

Hey Gin, just for clarity, the Jags didn't have a 4th round pick. It's not like there was some way of exchanging draft positions with another team, like magic or something. I have no idea how they lost their 4th round pick. It must have fallen out of their pocket on the way back from the market. That's the only explanation I can think of...

bet the Jags' mom was mad when they got home....

So, really Gin. Get it together.
