Official Start Nate; Riley in Relief Thread - 09-27-2008, 06:14 PM

I like both our quarterbacks. Riley is the future but we need to focus on the here and now. Both Nate and Riley have their own unique strengths. At this time Nate is simply a better quarterback under normal circumstances. However, Riley shines when the game is on the line late. We should start Nate and bring Riley in later in the game. It's not really a #1, #2 situation. It is just playing to their strengths.

Loved seeing Alex Mack chase down Nate and give him a huge bear hug after Nate's first touchdown pass.

I agree with your idea as long as we can change the rules to spot Nate a 4-5 touchdown lead before the first snap. He's very solid in those situations. It's been when the game is competitive that he's been a catastrophe (see MSU for his only meaningful PT this season). If we can work this out, I'll start pulling for Nate to start the games. If we can't get that rule change, then unfortunately your idea is totally insane.

In other words... no. Riley's the guy.

But it is interesting that JT said after the game (sideline interview) that Riley missed a lot of open receivers. So it seems he was pulled for performance reasons. Whatever that ends up meaning...

Should we also petition for a rule change to limit the game to 2 min halves? Because that's the only time Kevin excels...

The play calling needs to be better for Riley.

Riley 1st Half Stats as Starter - 09-27-2008, 06:50 PM

By my (quick) count Riley's career 1st Half stats as a starter are:

42 of 73 (58%) 408 yards (5.6 ypa) 3 TDs, 2 Int's

He's also more prone to being sacked.

Really, drunk? Riley or Bust? Why are those our only two options? You've got to be kidding me.

I bet you were criticizing Tedford for having that kind of attitude about Nate last year.

You'd win that bet.

I'm not supporting the call to start Nate, but Drunk's position is indefensible. Aside from a few minutes this season, Riley has been horribly unproductive. Something needs to change, quickly.

go review the MSU game tapes - 09-27-2008, 07:17 PM

As long as Riley doesn't make bad turnovers like Nate, he stays out of the JT doghouse.
