Could it be argued Furd doesn't really have bragging rights over us? - 11-29-2010, 12:40 PM

At least not as much as they think, assuming they don't make the Rose Bowl. Try this on for size...

Furd is having a season eerily similar to our 2004 campaign. New-ish coach (4th yr. Harbaugh vs. 3rd yr. JT), stud QB, running the table except for 1 loss to the consensus #1 in the country, ending up around #4.

So basically, they've had one golden year, just like we have under Tedford, and nothing else yet.

Sure, the difference is that they will get to a BCS bowl while we didn't, but that was because of a different system as well as Mack Brown's trickery. Our 2004 team accomplished everything in the regular season that Furd's 2010 team did.

We couldn't take the next step after 2004. It remains to be seen whether Furd will. The smart money says no.

Other than that, our current HC is still 7-2 against Furd in the last 9 Big Games. Last week's debacle doesn't erase that, even though it sure felt like it did at the time.

So, does this theory have legs?

Whoever has the Axe has the bragging rights. It's as simple as that.

Excuse me -- Stanford just had one of the greatest Big Game victories EVER, by either team. They get to brag for years about that.

And they will be playing in a BCS bowl, something Cal will not experience for the foreseeable future. One thing is for sure -- if there was a Mack Brown who tried to rain on the Furd parade this year, Harbaugh would make mincemeat of him, not protest limply (some call it "nobly")and then forget it.

Let 'em brag. They've got reasons to.

of course they can brag. They just kicked the sh!t out of us. Does that mean they will rise to consistent national prominence? No of course not. Those are two totally different things. It's amazing what losing a top flight QB will do to a program.

NO! - 11-29-2010, 01:45 PM

They just kicked out butts in The Big Game. Plus they are more than likely going to a BCS Bowl Game.

By this same argument, you can also say that Oregon doesn't have bragging rights over us (as they play for the National Championship).

In football, the only thing that matters is recent history. Not what may or may not happen in the future. That said, we can hopefully get things turned around and start a new Big Game streak agains the Furds....

WSU is still our Biotch...

Furd gets to brag about whooping our ass... They dont get to brag about getting a BCS bowl because of a rule change brought about ONLY BECAUSE of Cal getting screwed.

Which change was that? The "rule of 4" came about because of Kansas State and was actually what screwed us.

But....but.....I'm the only one who was suggesting we reject their smack talk!

OK, I get it. Sometimes we (Cal fans) just have to take our whuppin' like men. You're all right, I'm wrong. No need to pile on.
