Could this be a translation thing? It wouldn't be nearly as offensive and have the same connotation if it were phrased as street ball instead of ghetto ball.

Then again I have a German friend who said all the rap music in German CD stores when those actually existed was in the section labelled 'black music' (or whatever the german word for that, maybe schwarz?).

They should also include in the 'black music' section jazz, blues, soul, r&b, reggae, ska and all of their derivatives, including the entire genre of rock music...basically everything but classical and marching band music.
