Would Garrett Gilbert be a good fit for Cal? - 10-06-2011, 01:39 PM

Now that Garrett Gilbert is basically a free agent, would he work well at Cal?

He's got a cannon arm, his dad played QB for Cal in the 80s and was actually Cal's QB in "The Play." it could be a steal, perhaps he could become the QB that Texas hoped he could be...and he's prolly wisened up a bit since leaving Texas...

If he's happy being our third string QB then I'm sure there's a place for him here.

Unless you want to alienate the current QBs we have on the roster for next year:

Maynard - JR
Bridgford - SO
Hinder - FR
Kline - Incoming

Then by all means, go for it.

No, I like the QBs on our roster better.

GG should try TCU or SMU.

He should try oregon or ucla if he wants to come west. He would be a great fit for their systems.

what did Garrett Gilbert do at Texas that would make you think Cal would be interested in him?

He is not looking to come here anyway. Not worthy of our discussion......

Ben Olson, Garrett Gilbert, Joe Ayoob. All 5 star QBs. Why do we swoon over 5 stars?

Not saying we should take him, but couldn't we have said the same thing about Tom Brady at Michigan when we were thinking of taking him as a transfer? Didn't people say the same thing about Maynard at Buffalo?

If the coaches like him enough to offer him a slot, I'd be thrilled to have Gale Gilbert's son on the team.

I'm certainly not pushing for it though.

As others have said, Maynard will be a senior next year and as far as I can tell, we have good QBs in the pipeline.
