Unit charts from 4/7 practice - 04-07-2012, 04:34 PM

With a low vantage point, a lot of action taking place on the far side of the field, and players, particularly on the second unit being rotated in and out frequently, it's been challenging to keep track of who's in which unit. While these are reasonably accurate, there's a chance that a few players could have been missed, particularly because there were sequences when they were running a hurry-up offense and people could have easily slipped on and off the field.

First unit offense
OL Tyler Rigsbee, Jordan Rigsbee, Brian Schwenke, Geoffrey Gibson, Matt Summers-Gavin
TE Richard Rodgers, Jacob Wark
QB Zach Maynard
RB Isi Sofele, Dasarte Yarnway (Darren Ervin)
WR Maurice Harris, Bryce McGovern (Jackson Bouza)

Notes: The first unit offensive line was fairly standard throughout there wasn't much rotating in and out. Similarly, with Spencer Hagan out with a wrist injury, the bulk of the tight end work during 11-on-11s was done with Rodgers and Wark. During drills, Nathan Philip and Jake Davis were active as tight ends. Sofele was used initially during goal line drills, and very briefly during 11-on-11s, with Ervin and Yarnway seeing much of the running back duty behind the first unit line.

First unit defense
DL Deandre Coleman, Mustafa Jalil, Kendrick Payne (Gabe King, Keni Kaufusi, Vili Moala)
LB Chris McCain, Robert Mullins, J.P. Hurrell, Dan Camporeale (Cecil Whiteside)
DB Steve Williams, Alex Logan, Josh Hill, Kameron Jackson (Adrian Lee)

Notes: The first unit defense also seemed relatively standard with Gabe King filling in for Mustafa Jalil for a stretch with King moving to an end position and Payne being moved inside. Whiteside was primarily with the second unit, but he did see spot duty with the first unit late in practice. Although Kameron Jackson opened at one cornerback opposite Steve Williams, he yielded to Adrian Lee for most of the afternoon.

Second unit offense
OL Bill Tyndall Alex Crosthwaite, Chris Adcock, Matt Williams, Brian Farley (Geoffrey Gibson, Christian Okafor)
TE Jacob Wark, Richard Rodgers
QB Allan Bridgford (Kyle Boehm, Austin Hinder, Zach Kline)
RB Brendan Bigelow, Dasarte Yarnway
WR Ross Bostock, Stephen Anderson, Jackson Bouza (Dewey Willis, Mike Manuel, Kaulin Krebs)

Notes: Years ago, it seems like they'd have a second unit and a third unit, with the third unit getting small bits of time. In recent years, they've been playing the second unit longer and rotating people in and out. To the extent that you can read anything out of order, the first non-Maynard, non-Bridgford quarterback, was Kyle Boehm, followed by Zach Kline, and then Austin Hinder. The idea appears to be to give Maynard and Bridgford a lot of work this spring; Boehm, Kline, and Hinder only earned a handful of snaps during 11-on-11s.

Second unit defense
DL Todd Barr, Vili Moala, Keni Kaufusi (Austin Clark, Puka Lopa)
LB Nick Forbes, Jason Gibson, Cecil Whiteside, Stephen Fanua (Nathan Broussard, Ted Agu, Lucas King)
DB Adrian Lee, Tyre Ellison, Avery Sebastian, Kameron Jackson

Notes: Whether it's an issue of the second unit offense still coalescing or the second unit defense playing exceptionally well, almost everybody on the second unit defense made plays on Saturday afternoon, with several places whistled for sacks later on in practice.

Next up'll be stats....

Interesting OL lineup with both Rigsby boys and Gibson. Same with the DL with Tipoti not on the field (injury?) and who is the NT? Sounds as if that is Jalil and not Payne. Also nice to see Kaufusi and King working in the rotation.

As for the second OL unit, Matt Williams at guard? Tyndall and Farley at tackle?

dewey ? willis - 04-08-2012, 07:38 AM

did joel change his name ... trying to keep up so avery changed his name no more walls now sebass and coley right to which i cant remember ...? help me out .... how did dewey look ie speed , quickness, hands?? will how long will the adjustmet take from a year preping for cb and now swtiching to the teams depth lacking position WR * is he a really fast guy?...heard a lot bout drops with this due to techinque ( adjustment to new coach / or defensive play protection or pressure ?

sounds like running back will be ok if the oline can shake the injuries and get settled on a starting 5 hate that braz is gone for the year grrr @ the sucking part of college football

nice to see brendan progressing i think we should use him like oregon uses anthony ( at least for bait to open up spaces create one on ones and mismatches ) let him run they will chase him ...... yummy thats a nice thought

4wr set have brendan motion out to the slot side depending on coverage then either send him deep on a post or maybe a quick slant 2-5 yards deep where he can make quick catch and get down unless defense is out of position or just let him run 50 yard dashes streaking someone has to follow maybe a saftey over the top im just thinking out loud

thanks for the helpful info ink

Gibson and Schwenke over 310 pounds, one of the Rigsby's at 305, and the other two guys around 295. Attempt to get some size on the line? More bulking up over the summer could get some power back into that unit.
