So according to this article he agreed to coach at Arizona State but then bailed out on them to coach at Texas Tech in 2011? Hope he doesn't do the same to Cal.

anyone notice Dykes sentiments on the existing Oline talent?
gotta make you wonder why the O-line was under-performing.
culture of failure setting in after so many years of never quite good enough under Tedford. maybe playing for a qb that they felt hadn't under the position. possibly a combination of all the above. whatever it was, I never thought it was Coach M's inability to coach.

Yet another position coach with multiple experience and talents.
All seem to have reputations as good recruiters.

Coaching sessions with this group should be lively and spirited, but cohesive.
Dykes seems to have overflowing charisma to attract quality coaches willing themselves to "Fit" into a system.

I'd be super surprised if Monken isn't calling the plays for SoMiss.

Stupid comment if you're trying to recruit in California.

Btw, having stellar offenses combined with lousy defenses is nothing new to Cal. We're not anywhere near "completely different."

The article mentions Dykes watched tapes of only four games and "believes the offensive line is better than advertised". Maybe his opinion might have been different had he watch the other eight games.

However, good for him trying to give those guys some confidence. They need it. They need anything, it appears.

Which four games did he watch ... but it doesn't matter because Dykes SEES things that the casual fan does not. How (and why) the OL performed before is really kind of irrelevant. It's a new system and the current OL, including now those who blueshirted, have an opportunity to "fit" which wasn't the case before.

Past performance should not prejudice the anticipation of future results.

Yep, because if no coach is from California, then we will have no idea how to persuade any California kids. High schoolers care what state their coach is from. We are absolutely screwed.

One of the best staffs in America is at Bama. Of the ten coaches on the Alabama staff, the secondary coach is from the state and played at Bama. The other nine are from out of state and played college ball out of state. Three played in the SEC including the secondary coach. The others played anywhere from Kent State to Purdue to Conn.

There are two Georgia natives and a S. Carolinian among them, but they are also from NYC, St. Louis all over. Point is you win and you can be from Venus and recruit.

Didn't mean to offend you or your husband, Mrs. Dykes. Ya'll continue to have a great Christmas, ya hear?

@slothright20: Of course when you're a powerhouse, it doesn't matter where you're from. And I agree you get the best coaches wherever possible. I don't believe anyone has anything bad to say about Dykes or his staff. But not just anyone can sell both the academics and athletics of Cal so we really will see what this staff is made of in the next few years. I also believe 'Bama's greatest advantage is that they're just a football factory with an unlimited budget and nothing else. The free payments, beer, sex, and grades of the SEC institutions as a whole also work against us, so let's no try to over-use such schools as prime examples of what Cal should be.

The state you're from is at matters most, just look at the amazing run we've had by using coaches with Bay Area ties

Are you a freshman or something? Even Tedford was hugely successful in his early years. His only problem during that time was USC was experiencing a resurgence at the same time.

Beat it, son.
