Freshman cornerbacks Jaylinn Hawkins and Malik Psalms
In a position to top priority in the 2015 recruiting class, talented 4 star cornerbacks Jaylinn Hawkins and Malik Psalms filled the bill for exactly what Cal was looking for at the corner position with size and athleticism.
The 6'1" Hawkins and 6'2" Psalms have turned heads this summer and the first day of fall camp with their tight coverage and ability to match up with Cal's talented corps of receivers.
Both players are coming off their first classes at Cal with summer bridge and both have enjoyed their experience so far.
"It's actually been really good," said Hawkins. "A lot of moving. We just had to get a lot of things done. We just moved from Unit 3 to Unit 1.
"It's been a great experience so far," said Psalms. "Cal's just a great place. I'm just happy to be out here practicing with the team and getting it going."
Both highly-rated players took a chance on a Cal program where they found themselves comfortable, while believing they'd find themselves on a team poised for success.
So far, have their decisions appeared to have been the right ones for them as student athletes, especially Hawkins, who went down to signing day before choosing the Bears?
"I made the right choice," said Hawkins. "It's a true blessing.
"Everyone's family-oriented here."
"I've known I made the right choice for a long time," said Psalms, one of the first 2015 Cal recruits to commit, on Easter Sunday last year. ""It's a great atmosphere and a great team.
"I got my boy (Hawkins) to come.
"The coaches want to get better and that's a great thing. The players, it's just a totally different mindset than a couple years ago. We're just coming for the Pac-12 championship."
