Early in camp in 2011, presumed starter Eric Stevens saw his season come to an early end as his acl gave out and required season-ending surgery, leaving the Bears scrambling to fill his shoes.
Now back and healthy -100% in Stevens' words- the senior fullback is primed for a big season for the Bears.
With his weight back up to 242, Stevens has grown into more of a prototype fullback than the Bears have had in the past few seasons.
In his first practice back, Stevens showed good speed and pass-catching ability, hauling in a pass down the left sideline and turning it up field.
A power blocking fullback with the ability to keep defenses honest with the threat to haul in passes from the backfield could be a key ingredient in a Bear offensive resurgence.
