After an official visit to Cal two weekends ago followed by an official visit to Washington this past weekend, Orange Lutheran (Santa Ana, CA) linebacker Aisea Tongilava made his final decision tonight, verbally committing to the Bears.
After a quick text noting his commitment to Cal, the 6-1/230 linebacker officially announced his Cal commitment via Instagram:

"I'm glad to say that today I am officially committed to the University of California Berkeley and cannot wait to enjoy these next four years at a great school.

"Twas a great journey and I thank every school that gave me an opportunity to be a part of their family but I'm proud to say that I'm a Golden Bear."

Talking briefly tonight after his announcement, Tongilava noted his main reasons for choosing Cal.

"One of the main reasons I chose Cal are that it's a great school and I loved the Class of 2014 recruits and I bonded with them greatly," said Tongilava.

The 3 star Tongilava saw his recruiting pick up intensity in a big way late in the year after he committed early to San Jose State, with offers from Cal and Washington being two of his most recent.

His senior season was a stellar one, with Tongilava racking up 70 tackles, 7 sacks, 1 interception, 4 forced fumbles and 4 fumbles recovered in the Lancer's 7-4 season. The hard-nosed linebacker plays an extremely physical style of ball, making hard contact most every play and relentless in pursuit, combining surprising 4.58 speed with a 35 inch vertical and 435 lb squat.

Also an excellent student, Tongilava will bring an impressive 3.8 gpa to Berkeley and Cal's academic reputation also had a lot to do with the decision.

Even though Tongilava greatly enjoyed his visit to Seattle last weekend and hosted Husky (and former Cal) defensive coordinator Bob Gregory on an in-home visit tonight, after a couple hours of intense deliberation, he decided to stick with his first instincts and commit to the Bears.

Tongilava will be reunited with rugby teammate Edward Tandy, who is currently on the pitch with Cal's #1 rated rugby team in the nation.
