6-2/210 Glendora athlete Braydon Brus‍ became one of the first Cal recruits to lock on an official visit, scheduling his trip to NorCal the second weekend available with official visits to campuses opening up in June.

“I’m super pumped, man,” said Brus. “It’ll be awesome. I’m excited to experience the atmosphere of the team and the coaches. They have an awesome program so itll be cool to experience that. It’ll also be cool to experience the city and all that that it has to offer.”

The Cal staff has stayed active building the relationship with the super-athletic athlete, who the Bears like at inside linebacker.

“Coach Sirmon, Coach Wilcox, BMac (Director of Recruiting Strategy, Brendan McInerny) and Benji Palu have been my main recruiters, but I talk to just about everyone on the staff,” noted Brus. “We have a great relationship, and I talk to all of them multiple times a week.”

As for what he’s looking for, Brus has a good idea about the priorties that are most important to him in choosing his home for the next four years.

“What I’m looking for in a program is a great school, academically speaking,” said Brus. “Football doesn’t last forever so a school where I can get a great degree is a super-important to me. Also the players and coaches. I want players that are playing for each other and are playing to win. And same with the coaches. I want to play for coaches who care about you as a person and also a player and who want to win just as bad as the players do.”

Brus had an idea of how his recruitment timeline would ideally go but in this era of disruption and the resulting impact on recruiting timelines overall, he’s reevaluated those plans.

“Well see,” said Brus of his timeline. “My plan was by the end of the summer but with Covid and stuff it will most likely be pushed up and be sooner than later. So no official (commit) date yet, I’m just really focusing on the season right now.”

The 3 star junior had a monster soph season, recording 104 tackles, 17 TFL, 4 ½ sacks and two pick-6’s on defense as well as 241 yards in 25 carries at running back for Glendora.

To date, Brus has offers from Cal, Colorado, Arizona, WSU, Michigan State, Boston College and more, along with Ivy League academic powerhouses Harvard and Yale.
