Cal, Wisconsin To Meet In 2029, 2030

The California and Wisconsin football teams have agreed to meet for a pair of nonconference games in a home-and-home series in 2029 and 2030. The Golden Bears will host the Badgers at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley on Sept. 1, 2029, before making a trip to Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin, on Aug. 31, 2030.

Cal holds a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series with the most recent contest a 28-12 victory for the Bears in Madison to open the 1990 campaign for both teams. Wisconsin was a 28-7 winner in the first-ever meeting between the teams in 1946, with Cal's first three victories coming in the following three seasons (1947-49) when the Bears were a combined 29-3, won a Pacific Coast Conference title (1949) a year after tying for a PCC crown (1948), and played in a pair of Rose Bowls (1948-49). Cal also swept the most recent games between the teams in 1989 and 1990.

The last time Cal played a Big Ten team was in the 2019 Redbox Bowl at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara when the Bears defeated Illinois, 35-20. Cal was also a winner in its last regular-season game against a Big Ten team with a 31-24 victory at Northwestern in the 2014 season opener for both squads.

Its a long, long, way off, but more than happy to provide information on going to Madison for the game. The gameday atmosphere is excellent, lots of bars around the stadium, good tailgating, and the hotel situation is also good, lots of options. My daughter will be done at Cal by then (graduates in 26 god willing), but we still may come out for the game in Berkeley

Took a road trip as a Cal Band Member to the game in '89. The Badgers are excellent hosts and they have an official post game celebration win or lose called the 5th quarter that is a whole ton of fun!

Loved everything about that trip!

No contest. Wisconsin has not even legalized medical marijuana, though maybe by then they will have.

You mean 1990. The 89 game was at Cal, my first live game.

Correct! I remember the band members that chose to road trip were thinking, this could be the only Cal victory of the year as Wisconsin was also stuck in a period of time where they were Big 10 bottom dwellers. Cal ended up winning that game on the road and having a pretty good season culminating in a Copper Bowl victory over Wyoming!

I also remember Russell White debuting against a #10 Miami team in our first home game of the season and on his first touch from scrimmage returning a kick for 99 yards and a touchdown. After the score, the band played the theme from Superman before the traditional Fight for California. What an epic debut!

Wisconsin is playing our Bears instead of the baby bears in these seasons?

The Badgers were previously scheduled to face the UCLA Bruins the same two seasons, but the series was nullified after UCLA announced its intention to join the Big Ten Conference in 2024.
