He could have fallen asleep. I saw a guy ahead of me do it on 24 at 8:00 am a month or so ago going through Lafayette. His car sped up from the slow lane, made a sharp angle across all lanes, ricocheted off the wall by the BART tracks, did 360s from that wall back across all lanes of the freeway, then straightened out and headed up a steep hill off the shoulder (very few trees on it), and after climbing the hill slowed him down to a stop, the car rolled a couple of times down the hill coming to a stop upright. The guy gets out of the car and looked like he didn't have a scratch on him. The roof of his car did not collapse.
I suppose it wasn't his day to die....and I wished I had skipped coffee that morning because I was totally jacked trying to avoid getting hit by him and just watching it unfold.
