Yeah how would somebody making $3.5M annual have a $16M buyout.

Wilcox doesn't have to go..........He needs to make changes to his skill position coaches.

It is either incorrect or a large mutual buyout was added because Knowlton was afraid (or had been convinced by Wilcox's agent or our own party line) that Wilcox would be wanted by a bigger program and would jump if offered.

Mmmm...yes and no....

Yes, he needs better skill position coaches but no, he still can't put them altogether for developing a winning program fundamentally because Cal has very little offensive talent. Thus, even if Cal got the talent and coaches, we're looking at 2 or 3 years more before we see any positive results. This is probably a best case scenario. And, with Cal's current AD, this is asking a lot for a best case scenario.

C'mon everybody chip in a few buy out coins....Cal ain't going to go nowhere with the current head coach.....he can't hire good fit assistant coaches....can't recruit above average offensive players with any consistency....can't coach tight games well...etc., etc.

Hell with the big buy out amount....encourage him to take another job somewhere else (hint he might be a good MWC coach????}

Hey, wait a minute.....hmmmm......well as some here have pointed out it looks like Wilcox will be coaching at Cal for another two agonizing years us negabears will have plenty to post about!.....What a bonanza!

If Cal loses to Colorado, should Wilcox be fired immediately...post haste....etc.?

That's not accurate, is it? Is it?!? I thought Wilcox had 2 or 3 years left on his contract, at about $3.4 million a year, with a possible undisclosed buyout clause (which would make it a bit cheaper). So somewhere between 6-11 million.

What is the true story on this?

You're right. Wilcox is not going anywhere, because Knowlton loves him. Knowlton doesn't care about winning, just like our faculty doesn't care about winning. That's why Knowlton and the faculty get along so well.

He's probably not going anywhere for 2022, but he will be on the hot seat next season. Even Cal has a limit of what we can tolerate. Witness all the coaches we have had, the past few decades.

Who knows? Men's basketball is in bad shape too. Meanwhile Knowlton got an 8 year extension.
