It's very common. Strangely, I got the "student's nightmare" more often just after graduating than I did when I was in school. I put "student's nightmare" in quotes because there is actually a play about the actor's nightmare -- a similar phenomenon for actors, who dream they are forced on stage without knowing their lines.

I think this happens more after the fact - when you are seemingly comfortable but the dread is in your subconscious and reliving it once you're past it, is more terrifying than if you were in it. I love psycho-babble.

For all of the Cal games that I've seen in my lifetime, this has happened to once, and only once.

When I was in school, in I believe 1985, we were playing San Jose State. Kapp was the coach, and the Bears weren't very good. But they weren't shi**y, either, and they were favored over SJSU by at least a touchdown. SJSU had Mike Perez at QB that year, and he was a tough bastard.

Anyway I had a very vivid dream the night before the game that SJSU got out to about a two TD lead and the Bears kept scoring, but they couldn't catch the Spartans. In my pre-game drunken stupor, I kept going on and on about this dream I had about the game. All my Cal friends just thought it was the beer talking (which is partly true).

Anyway, if you remember the game, that's pretty much exactly the way it went. SJSU got out to a lead and every time the Bears would score, Perez would march them right back down the field and score again. It was fu**in' creepy, I tell ya.

Let me explain myself :p.

Last night, I had an incredibly vivid dream in which this Saturday's game against UW played out in my sleep. The players, uniforms, and plays were all accurate (at least on the CAL side), and the game ended with CAL winning 36-0 (yes, Giorgio missed an extra point :p).

This is not the first time this has happened. Does this happen to anyone else? Or should I seek professional help? :p

Ya me too, never about Cal football. But I do have this recurring dream about sleeping in during a final (after staying up all night studying for it), and running to Harmon (back in the day) to least sit for the 3rd hour of the essay portion.

Ditto for me...no Cal sports dreams and I had those same test anxiety dreams--mine where I would get mixed up which room the final was in and would get there way late...I had another one where the pencil lead kept breaking so I couldn't write in the blue book

So we have fellow BIrs who have heroic dreams about Cal winning and sometimes being a part of it, and then there is us...anxious neurotic Woody Allen types who can't get to their finals in time...WTF does this say about us?

Now if you want to talk about fantasies about Cal winning, I got those!

I have had a number of Cal football game dreams over the years, and all of them (the home games) are in stadiums located at the present day Edwards Field track stadium. In some of them the stadium is basically the way Edwards looks right now. This was a proposed site as an alternative to Memorial. Are my dreams prescient?

I had a dream in which I was studying at Moffitt Library one night and took a break to check the posted finals schedule to see where my Genetics final is the following week. Upon looking at the schedule, I notice to my horror that the final is at 8AM the next day (and I still have 30 chapters to catch up on). Oh wait, that wasn't a dream; that was real. Freak out time!

No test anxiety dreams.... but no sports dreams, either- at least not exactly. I don't dream about the games. But I do have recurring dreams- have had for over 30 years- about getting lost or stranded in Berkeley or Oakland and trying to get home (to Fremont, where I grew up, not to Marin, where I've lived for years.) And often, I decide just to go to the stadium instead... but find that it's somehow been changed, or that I'm in an underground part of it I've never seen before. Sometimes there's a game going on, sometimes not- but it's always very upsetting to be there and not be quite sure that it really *is* Memorial Stadium. (In some versions over the years there's actually been an upper deck on the east side- and I go up there to watch the game in the sun, and get caught up in it, and forget to be upset about the fact that Cal is playing in this strange place....)
