I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd rather go to a Rose Bowl...although I realize that it's not the "correct" decision.

JT has been saying this for years but I'm not sure it is true anymore except for us Old Blues maybe...I personally don't care which one at this point since things are changing big time in cfb...hell, we could even win the Pac 12 the year the Rose Bowl hosts the NC game and be left out of both with our luck....honestly, I just want to go to a BCS bowl....you know, kind of like the Furd has already done a couple of times.....ARGHHHH!!!!!

The correct answer is "BOTH." Which is why I want the plus one. I want to go to the traditional Rose Bowl, win it, THEN play in the National Championship game.

Meh, either. To be honest, with the talent around the conference, if we manage to make it back to the HB, we'll have likely exceeded expectations.

I would like Cal to be in conversion...

Then I would like for Cal to go to the Rose Bowl (the NC is a gimmick anyway -even with the "playoff"; the Rose Bowl is pure tradition, what college football is about and why it is popular).

Is an above .500 conference record one of the options? I'll take that!

I want the Rose Bowl if it means what it used to mean...that we are the Pac-12 champions and we will face the Big 10 champion. If it is an issue of whether we can go to the NC game by winning the Pac-12 championship or go to the Rose Bowl by being the runner-up, I would prefer the NC game. The Rose Bowl obviously is great, but what it signified made it special for most of us.

Tedford is right, most cal fans only care about beating Stanford, USC, UO, and UW.

Poor Tedford. All he wants to do is win championships, but the stupid fans just want to win individual games. When will they learn that it does not matter if we lose to Stanford, USC, UO, and UW as long as we get to the Rose Bowl!

What kind of simple minded fan wants to beat the teams that have dominated their league and are or have become bitter rivals? That's not football!

But imagine going to the Rose Bowl, winning it, then playing in the National Championship game and losing that. Pretty much wipes out the "high" of the Rose Bowl win. That's why I don't like the idea of a team playing more than one game in the postseason. Don't want a plus one, don't want a playoff. In fact I would rather just have the old system. Polls and bowls. Let people argue about split national champions all they want.

It would not wipe out my high. Try it again. First, we beat Oregon, Washington and then Stanford in Big Game, taking home the Axe. Then we play BIG champ in the Rose Bowl. Cal fans celebrating New Year's Eve in Pasadena! The Cal Band in the Rose Parade! And on a glorious New Year's Day we win! Now we face the SEC champ LSU, number 1 in the country in the national championship game. Another party in New Orleans. Underdog Cal is the talk of the nation. Not unexpectedly, we lose, but up until the 4th quarter we are in it and we finish ranked #2. We party some more with LSU fans, our heads held high--as commitments come in from 4 and 5 star recruits from all over the country!

I doubt many people would agree with you. Heck, let's take it further. I don't like the idea of a bowl game after the rivalry game. Imagine winning the Big Game and then going to the Rose Bowl and losing that. Pretty much wipes out the "high" of the Big Game win.

We win the Rose Bowl, we win the Rose Bowl. If that were to happen and we were one of the top 4 teams, let's see if we were the best team in the country instead of engaging in mental masturbation as to why one team instead of another should have been crowned champion. Anything else seems cowardly.

First, we have to get out of the bottom half of the PAC12 Northern Division, which is where the media have us picked to finish.

Rose Bowl! Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that we'll be in either the Rose Bowl or the NC game anytime soon, much less get a win in either.

right..I was going to say that anyone posting this had to give their age, and that us Old Blues would say Rose Bowl, the younger ones would go with the NC...you shot that down from the outset!

LOL, know doubt--that is the dream scenario--we win BOTH. My point is winning the Rose Bowl and then losing in the National Championship Game is better than just losing the National Championship Game (or worse, some non-Rose playoff game) without the Rose Bowl win and that losing in the National Championship Game would not eliminate the joy of winning the Rose Bowl. Last time we went to the Rose Bowl, didn't we lose? We still count it as joyful that we went.

If you are afraid of losing the next game in the post season, we can just go back to being happy with the Axe.

I am sorry but you mean to tell me you would be bummed if we went to the final 4 but lost? It is the FINAL 4!! And in your scenario we would have won the semifinal. If JT gets us to a true NC game he can have a 10 year extension.

...getting close to kickoff when this age old, and very tired question pops up on BI. It is so tiresome I won't even answer it, but I thought the first guy who said we don't have to worry about that issue for a long time pretty much summed it up for me.

I will be happy if we win 6 games this year and people are picking us dead last, which is no surprise.

This would be a good first step, and the way to do it would be first: to go to the shoe and hand Urban his first loss, then move on from there. Win 6 of our home games and 4 on the road. That would be a good start?

Pretty much the only people picking Cal last are the Nega Bears. Sad commentary.
