For all you old Blues out there, especially if you were raised in the 60's or before, his song "San Francisco" (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) was one of my favs when it came out in 1967. Scott didn't have too many hits but this song even today gives me fond memories of my childhood...and all the peaceful things of that era. RIP Scott, childhood friend of mine.....

Oh, and even though he didn't have a ton of hits, he was affiliated with the Mama's and the Papa's and also co-wrote the hit song "Kokomo" for the Beach Boys in 1988

Nice tribute Fan2, you hit it just right... Was an important song for that time, and did indeed portend of the 'peace'ful aspects and good youthful feelings of the generation.

Thanks. For those of us who were embraced by the peace movement in the late 60s coming from conventional backgrounds, "San Francisco" sort of embodied that moment in time. It wasn't about drugs, free love and all the rest that the movement became known for, but rather just the notion that people could come together (why not SF?) live and simply be "peaceful." The song itself had a life of its own - being heartfelt with just enough folk, melody, and "pop" to give it longevity today. Thanks Scott, it's still in my top 10..and I only wish the peace and love he sang about had a glimmer of a chance in today's world.

The problem was that the peace and love of which Scott sang just didn't turn out to be a sustainable business model for the defense contractor industry. His passing just another reminder to us who came of age in the 60's that we are getting old. Great song!

I always listened to it on the flight line at DaNang. Made me feel a little closer to home back then.

Other than armed forces radio, just nosy/curious, you listened to that tune how? Simon & Garfield's "Homeward Bound" track on vinyl was my happy place. "Parsley sage rosemary and thyme" a very close second.

This fool spent a couple early 70s lazy years in CamRahnBay; DongBaT(h)in actually. Caught scenic whirly flights to NhaTrang and main Saigon air base TanSonNhut once or twice. DaNang, nope, dint ever have to go up there.

Intrusive whimsy, sorry, have you ventured back in-country tourist mode? On the news sounds like everything changed.. maybe so, dunno.

Radio call sign Alpha Bravo Eight Alpha Alpha Oscar (my original MOS devolved into connecting grunts to their stateside family, via volunteer US ham radio operators; including celebrity George Burns' generous son Al, in Santa Barbara):

Grunt: "I love you."
Single-Side band radio operator's whispered reminder to Grunt, ahead of throwing the send/receive switch so the other party can talk: "Say Over"
Grunt: "I LOVE You!

Despairing radio operator, after several failed iterations, grudgingly connecting the dots: "OVER!"

Bearister, We may be getting "old," but we will never forget the chance we once had back then..and like you said, the "movement" didn't have any money in it..but, don't you feel lucky you lived through it..and had those crazy, free thinking peace dreams of the day? Shattered for me after Kent State..Ohio - another song you might remember??

8-track tape. I ordered it from the PX at El Toro just before I won an argument with a Captain. I'll be damned if I didn't have orders for West-Pac the next day. I guess he held a grudge.

Spent my time in a C-130 (VMGR-152) back and forth from Okinawa, Cubic Bay, DaNang, Bangkok, and who can remember where else. Oh yeah, several times down to Perth for the lobster.

Haven't been back yet, but I plan to before I check out. I hear China Beach has a new resort at $400 plus a night. Hell, I'll go find my old hootch.

By the way, Welcome Home.
