I'm guessing it's because SC doesn't own their stadium, but I can't read the article.

Can somebody sum up why a school like Oklahoma has a "value" approximately five times greater than Cal's? How are these values derived? Is it based on some sort of endowment fund that an Oklahoma might have and we don't?

Kinda crazy: If I sold my modest house in the East Bay, I imagine I could buy a veritable palace in Norman, Oklahoma, so their program having a "value" that much greater than ours seems bizarre.

Haven't read the article, but I suspect the value of the SEC TV rights figures into they're being ahead of all P12 teams.

Not surprising being a Murdoch-owned enterprise at this point.

'Burner Phone' Accusation Marks New Chapter in Ole Miss Scandal
The school reported to the NCAA a lawyer's allegation that its football coaches used prepaid phones to conceal contacts with recruits

Sept. 19, 2017 10:42 a.m. ET

In August, University of Mississippi athletic director Ross Bjork assembled the football team's coaching staff in a meeting room. He handed out a form that asked the coaches to disclose whether they had used personal phones, including "prepaid phones, pay as you go, burner, etc." for recruiting or any other work-related purpose.

One simple way to get to a value would be to sum up the present discount value of all future football profits for each program.

So to me it's not inconceivable that some schools are worth many times more than Cal. Depending on how one accounts for the stadium payments, Cal football might turn a profit of $5-15 million. If oklahoma, alabama, and ohio state are profiting in the $50-70 million range, then a much larger valuation is appropriate.

USC does seem very low to me. While they don't own the Coliseum, they have a great lease (as does UCLA). Having a good lease deal actually is a positive in the profit side. UCLA seems low too given their Learfield and Under Amour deals being some of the biggest in the P5. But at the same time EVERY Big Ten school will receive $10+ million more per year from TV than P12 schools.

So, if it takes into account the value of the stadium on net basis with any assumed debt taken into account, maybe we should be happy with our valuation?

Yes my thought too, we are carrying a lot of debt on the MS reno.

Pac16 with Texas, Oklahoma, OkSt and TT makes sense based on that list, right now the P12 is a distant 3rd or 4th in avg and ttl net worth.
