With perhaps too much time on their hands, ESPN has created an "ultimate draft ranking" which takes into account draft performance over the last decade for all draftable sports which includes NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, WNBA, MLL (lacrosse) and NFP (softball).

Cal is #19 which is good for third in the P12 and above #22 Furd.

"19. CALIFORNIA Total players drafted, 2009-18: 85 (see Cal's first-round picks).

Biggest draft-producing sports: Football, baseball, men's soccer

Cal has had 31 players taken in the NFL draft since 2009, including Jared Goff, who was selected No. 1 overall in 2016 by the Los Angeles Rams. The Golden Bears made an appearance in the College World Series in 2011, and 21 of their baseball players have been picked in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft in the past 10 years. California's men's soccer team made the NCAA tournament's round of 16 in 2013 and 2014, and 16 of its players have been drafted by MLS, tied for 10th-most overall."

Better than I would have guessed for the last 10 years.

This is, I think, really important. Frankly if you have a top division athletic department your job should be to develop talent and allow those kids to have real opportunities in the Pros. We don't generate CS engineers to write excel spreadsheets for home budgeting, after all.

Number 19 is a decent rank, but we do have one of the largest athletic departments and are the top public institute in the country. I would think that we can do better at this metric over time.

Cal is better at producing "Olympic" talent more so than "draft" talent.

Cal is #4 according to this list. The top 3 don't surprise.

Given UCLA no longer has some of the sports it medaled in, wouldn't be shocked if we passed them in the next 3 games.

How has Cal won 90 Winter Olympic medals? Just from foreign students? I can't even think of a winter event where we have a team or any facilities.

The only person I could think of was Jonny Moseley.

For reference, Cal has doubled up UCLA the last two games in medals. If we continue to dominate in all aquatic sports, the trend should continue.
