I particular like the first one since I noticed how many Cal commits use the most overused word in the English language... blessed

Aaarggghhhh.... it's luck of the draw, genetics and hard work!!!! Not something mystical....

I feel blessed that you broached this topic.

The most trendy word these days that I'm totally sick of: "curated"

Oh, PUHLEASE. Is this the highest priority item you can come up with? Some if not all of these kids may be religious. You gonna ridicule them for that?

I am sick of the way the word "optics" is used these days. Optics are things like lenses that alter the path of light. Optics are NOT the way some inane political act appears to anyone who cares to pay attention to it. People smart enough to rise to the pinnacle of their careers in journalism should be smart enough to know that.

As long as we're writing about words that bother us, how about journalism's most over-used describers.
pivot
double-down
dive down
walk-back
litigate (when no legal action is pending)
and, I agree that curate and optics fit in this list.

I have no problem with them saying they are blessed and I have no intention of ridiculing them for that. Whether you call it God or good fortune, I feel it is a good thing to acknowledge that you may in some ways be more fortunate than others and to express some appreciation of that fact whether it is to God or the universe or directed nowhere in particular. I must say, though, that it would be nice if that favor was returned. If atheists talked about their atheism every time they made a public decision or publicly acknowledged good news or good fortune, I guarantee you they'd be ridiculed. The few prominent atheists out there are constantly ridiculed by the religious community.

I'd have a good laugh if an elite national recruit tweeted that he was firmly ambivalent about an offer from us.

I've noticed the overuse of blessed too and think they need to consult a thesaurus.
