amazing how we have forgotten about that ugly experience. we were so bad on offense could not watch. have we improved this problem ??? what have we done to get some guys who can make some plays on offense ??? i am concerned the defense will be on the field too long which will negate our chances to get "w's". needing playmakers on offense is still a major concern in my opinion.go bears.
Think of it this way...
Clemson lost the Orange Bowl to WVa after the 2011 season 70-33. The next season they were 11-2 and composite have been 87-11 since that huge loss.
A bowl game has zero bearing on the follow up season. Cal will be ok on O because of a maturing QB in Garbers. The biggest concern is the thin WR corps and (as always) the OL.
I sure hope you're right about that. If you go back and look at the "successful" Cal QBs over the last 30 years or so, you could kind of tell who was going to be successful by watching them in their first year. Pat Barnes, Dave Barr, Troy Taylor, Aaron Rodgers, Nate Longshore and Jared Goff are good examples. Even in their first year, they completed passes down the field and you had hope that with more protection or whatever, they could make something happen. I guess maybe the one exception would be Boller. He was lost the first three years then sorta turned it around under a new coach.
Chase needs a significant turnaround. Without looking at any statistics I would guess we completed fewer passes 10 or more yards down the field than probably 90% of CFB. Last season, I rarely had any hope let alone confidence that we could complete a pass down the field when we needed it. I do like his running ability, and hope he can turn around his passing. His HS tapes showed a different QB altogether.
