Nice. Thanks for sharing. Anyone following the situation in Miami closely enough to know if he has a chance of making the team?

He caught the go ahead touchdown pass also - great showing!

That's right. Forgot to mention 2 catches, 8 yards each and didn't realize until a few minutes ago that one was a touchdown.

Laird highlights at 3:05 and 4:25:

I've been following him too. Even listening when not televised, at least out here... Had like a 16 or 19 yard run last week, the longest one of the game for them. He's giving the 7-rounder from UW a challenge for sure. Go Patrick!

Not bad for a college walk-on. Didn't he play 8-man football in HS?

Yes indeed FW: https://www.sanluisobispo.com/sports/high-school/article221809875.html

In the process of finding that, I re-found this good read:

https://www.sanluisobispo.com/sports/college/article223237390.html

Didn't realize he had a Wiki page. I imagine the braintrust here can help build it out more...

Regardless how things settle-out for him in a couple weeks, the guy is a winner in my book. I get the sense he can make the team, and if not the Dolphins, somewhere else...

I always wondered if Laird was related to Bob Laird....https://www.sfgate.com/education/article/UC-Berkeley-s-Director-of-Admissions-to-Retire-2897036.php

Laird is one of the good ones. I hope he makes it so he can get more leverage on his do-gooding.

Went on Twitter last night to see what Fin fans were posting. A number of them hope and predict PL will make the team and a couple or more referred to him as a "Wes Welker out of the backfield."

Too bad he got scoped right before the season last year because he was money as a junior. 1127 yards, 8 td's, 5.9 yards per carry plus 45 catches for 322 yards and another touchdown in 2017.

I remember watching Laird 2 seasons ago and thinking he'd make a good, bigger, slot in the NFL.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Anyway, best of luck to Laird. Honestly, my main hope for him in the NFL is that he doesn't get hurt, as he's worth even more to the human race off the field, than he is on the field. With that in mind, though, I hope he has a good pro career.

As for Jordan K, no way, if he's at 100%, he doesn't make a team. He was flat-out too good a linebacker for us last year to not be an NFL player. I don't need to know heights, weights or times in the 40 to know that he can play at that level. The dude is solid, can make any sort of play and will represent any organization well.

Thanks, why did we not know this last season? He was noticeably hampered compared to the speed he exhibited the year before. Could he have redshirted?

They're never going to give opponents a competitive advantage by making injuries public knowledge when they can avoid it.

Laird was ready to move on. Double major and all. He knows football life is short so there is no way he would stick around. His dad told me that.

NFL teams could care less how "well" a player "represents any organization." If a linebacker doesn't have the speed, size, reach, strength, etc. needed for coverage assignments & to make plays, they won't play in the NFL, regardless of how well they did in college. NFL receivers, RBs, TE's, OLmen, are an order of magnitude better, faster, stronger, bigger & more difficult to tackle/defeat blocks than what any linebacker sees in college. Plain & simple.

I'm quite aware of the fact that "representing the organization well" will not earn somebody a roster spot. Not representing an organization well can lose somebody a spot, however,

The reason I think Jordan will play in the NFL is based on what I saw of him playing linebacker for us last season. He looks "big enough" and seems to play "fast enough" (yes, I'm projecting to the next level) and he MAKES PLAYS.

Maybe you disagree? We will find out... My prediction is that, barring injury, Jordan will spend at least a few years on NFL rosters.

If Laird brings his reading program to Miami, they'll love him. Freakin' Californian...he reads and pounds the rock.

Quick Jordan K recap:

USA Today:
With starters Luke Kuechly and Shaq Thompson sitting out, it was a brutal night for the backup linebackers. The exception to the rule was Kunaszyk, who made a couple of nice open field tackles on his own. He tied Jermaine Carter for the team lead with seven total.

Some random blog:
In the team's first preseason game against Chicago, he also made an impact. He recorded two tackles and a sack, showing he had the speed to get out to the quarterback.

Amazing guy. Would be great to seem him make the 53.

Particularly liked this from the first article:

And, Laird seems to be ahead of Myles Gaskin, a late-round rookie from Washington.

I didn't see it but I read that he also scored the two-point conversion right after this touchdown. Go on Twitter and see all the Dolphins fans insisting that he make the team.

Two-point conversion didn't count due to a penalty. He was in though, pretty much untouched as I recall...
