If players enroll for a fall semester at a school with only remote learning, will they lose a year of eligibility even if the football season is cancelled while classes continue remotely?
And also rather important, will athletic scholarships continue even if the athletic season is cancelled?
For academic seniors this would have an immediate impact if they want to play a senior year in 2021 and already have a redshirt year..
The 85 limit on scholarships would have to be increased to say 100 for the next five years to account for the lost season.

I'm certainly no expert, but I don't see how. It should be treated like a red-shirt year - you are enrolled at the institution, but don't participate in any games.

This topic has been discussed several other posts. The short answer is: no. The NCAA awarded an additional year of eligibility to all spring 2020 athletes. The catch is that schools are not required to provide scholarships for the additional year. Also, scholarship limits will be adjusted for each sport (again, assuming the NCAA follows the same plan as was implemented in the spring).

The problem may be for those students who graduate before their sport resumes. They may get another year of eligibility, even if their 5-year clock has run out, but we (and other schools) might see a slew of grad transfers or NFL draft entries.

Under the current circumstances, the NCAA should allow a second redshirt this year and next for all first and second year players. That is if the season gets canceled.
