Rogers looked as good as ever on Sunday, finding a nice variety of targets and great mobility.

He was very sharp yesterday. Do you think it would have been the same with a hostile crowd in the seats?
The truth lies somewhere between CNN and Fox.

Hanky, some thoughts here? Still hoping that your prediction will be "right" before Rodgers gets his AARP card?

This article from the Athletic (behind a paywall) analyzed Rodgers' stats, comparing them from last year to more successful prior years and concluded that he is still top tier, but the team around him is not. The truth about Aaron Rodgers' stats

As one measure, the writer literally looked at every incomplete pass to determine who was at fault, and concluded that:

Quote:

Relative to the 2014 season, Rodgers' supporting cast in 2019 left on the field nearly double the yardage (1,281 to 744), nearly double the explosive gains (34 to 18) and nearly double the touchdowns (15 to eight).
He also compared the players around him using Proscout evaluations over the last 10 years, as well as other measures, and concluded that the difference in Rodgers' stats is due to lesser talented players around him.

Im rooting for Rodgers and the Pack, esp coming off the Love draft pick. Obviously the Saints, Bucs, Niners games will tell all. Will know by the end of the day, Nov 5th, what this Packer team is about this year. The Packers made themselves one of the top 5 QB stories to watch this year. In my opinion Cam, Brady, Big Ben, and Mahomes being the other 4.

Love AR through and through, but isn't a big reason why his supporting cast took a big step down because he took a big step up in pay and crowded out supporting talent? Not saying any of us wouldn't have done the same...

Picked him up as my QB2, hopefully he outcompetes and becomes my QB1 and carries me to victory.

Happens to all teams when they pay their QB.

Rodgers' yearly salary in his 2018 contract is about the same % of the 2018 cap as his 2013 yearly salary was compared to the 2013 salary cap: 18%. The step down due to salary would have occured after the Super Bowl win, not 2018. Cap and top QB salaries were up about 50% over that interval.

Packers kind of mismanaged the situation by choosing to defer about $15 million of guaranteed 2019 money into the future to free up cap space. So Rodgers' cap number will look inflated the next two years, but he was doing the Pack a favor by allowing the contract changes. They probably could have traded him a year earlier without that restructure.

My prediction: Jordan Love turn out about as successful asPaxton Lynch.

The funniest part about the Aaron Rodgers slander (to me) is that it was sparked by a clickbaity article by ESPN that a ton of morons treated like gospel without even seriously considering it. ESPN still does some good longform work but their rankings and metrics (QBR, FPI, BPI, etc.) are hot garbage.

That was the same article (or same time period) that ESPN was claiming that Russell Wilson was a top 3 QB. Wilson is a hell of a player who's been underrated through his career, but there is no reasonable metric that has him as a better QB than Rodgers. They both have the same biggest strength (passing efficiency) but they get there in different ways. Aaron is the most efficient passer in the history of the NFL despite routinely leading the league in throwaways and going his entire career so far without the Packers drafting him a 1st round WR. On the other side, Wilson is second in career passer rating behind Aaron, but that's while leading the league in sacks taken compared to Aaron who was 5th lowest in sacks taken for QBs who started all 16 games last year. Those are both ways to avoid turnovers, but for Aaron to lead the league in throwaways and also lead the league in passing efficiency is unbelievable since they usually work against each other --all without giving up sacks.

Aaron also has never had the same type of defensive support (which has a positive correlation to passing efficiency) that Russ has had through most of his career. There have been some solid Packers defenses but none as dominant or sustained as the Seahawks Super Bowl winning Defenses, Rodgers also has never had a RB as good as Marshawn to work with.

Over the last couple seasons (since they dismantled the 'legion of boom') the Seahawks have reorganized their team and put the bulk of the responsibility on Russ' shoulders and he's responded impressively. But Aaron has been carrying his team for years with much less organizational and coaching support. In case anyone's getting the wrong idea, the point of this post isn't to trash an elite QB in Russell Wilson, it's just to say that at this point in time there's no reason that Russ should be seen as a top 5 QB but Aaron isn't.

last note: ESPN is the same folks who just put out a laughable 'Aaron Donald is a bad run defender' hot take even though AD led the league in TFLs each of the last two seasons. As some football analytics people pointed out: if your metric spits out ridiculous results, you should re-examine and fix it instead of doing mental gymnastics to try and substantiate an unsupportable claim

janky1's absence is rather conspicuous, isn't it? He will be back to "own us" the moment that Rodgers struggles, though. Because, as we all know, a quarterback in the NFL should never struggle.
