One note on Howland...he reminds me of a more successful Campanelli. And I'd look more favorably on his hiring if he was required to hire an offensive coordinator. Kind of like the year Lou Campanelli had the old New Mexico coach help him (Lou's wife was in a car wreck). The combination of Lou's defense and the ex-NM coaches offensive input created one of Lou's most successful teams.

It was. Reported here how land interviewed twice ?????

Gary Colson. It only worked because Lou was away much of the time w/ his wife.
As for Howland--the issues around recruiting are as important as style of play, imo.
Finally one more comment: I love the rumor mill: Howland's been interviewed twice! Howland has never been contacted! IMO, this suggests to me that at least they are doing a good job of the process--not leaking much info.

Yeah, I'm not going to say that the writer of the article is clueless or anything, because enough people have alread said that, but "Howland has never been contacted by Cal", well, that right there is the main function of the 1/4 million dollar search committee, right?

Maybe Howland did have a "second interview" with Cal, but he was the one who contacted Cal and not the other way around?
Big C_Cal;842302180 said:
Yeah, or the search firm contacted him on behalf of Cal.

Gotcha. Howland can't let his other suitors find out he has been rejected by Cal.

A phone call to 'ruins' AD, Dan Guerrero, by the search firm, or Sandy, herself, would have secured sufficient information to rule Howland in, or out, of the Cal hiring process.
Quote:
Howland was under contract until 2017 with a buyout of $2.3 million. Guerrero said any payout is subject to reduction if Howland gets another job.
