This is a very weak position calfanz. Bill is doing his schtick. We all get it. However, he goes too far sometimes! Some of his responses are simply forms of bullying. Ignoring bullies doesn't help the situation. You have to smack 'em in the face to keep them in check. I've been watching this board for long enough (forever) to realize that if people like petalumabear and others remain silent, then Shocky loses track of all the voices in his head and becomes a problem.

Shocky doesn't need defending and this board doesn't need voices telling positive contributors to go somewhere else or ignore the spoiled child having a tantrum in the living room.
unless... you intended something else by your retort... then.... nevermind....

I don't want Shocky (or his helpers) to grow up. This forum is staid enough as it is. I wish people like prospeCt still posted actively. I like the variety they bring, even if some of it misses the mark with me personally. If anything I'd challenge them to be more creative and clever, but first I'd take that challenge myself and put it to the rest of the community.

As the football and basketball teams see success, I think we will see a larger variety of posters here on BI. Already, the basketball boards have seen an uptick in posts for this time of year. When I first started on here, June through September was dead, with maybe a post a day. It is the old build it and they will come trope.

So.... why attack someone defending himself from a personal attack? This is the part that just seems a little fascist to me. I'll put up with party A being an azz, but not party B defending themselves, because I'm part of Party A.

I'm not suggesting that the louts stop louting. I think it's sort of fun and agree that this forum can be a little staid. But, then why stop the counter attack and diminish the debate/struggle/voices? isn't that what makes it fun and entertaining.

My guess is that you would prefer to watch Cal on TV, instead of in person and determine the game ahead of time, based on high school player rankings, and not let the opposition take their best shot - but just watch layup drills.

Don't be a dumb azz. Let Shocky shock, let Petalumabear peddle, let Beachedbear beach himself. 1999 is too young to be OLD.

(slow day at work at the beach, so I'm hopping on the monster bandwagon until a can pizz somebody off)

Shockster makes this board much more interesting to read and I enjoy the humor of the thread despite the occasional overreach. Folks ought not to always take themselves so seriously. That said, I'm concerned about the results. When the Monster started in 2012, we were the 2nd best team in the PAC-12 and now, after a steady downward trajectory, we're what? 11th? 12th? That falls squarely on the lap of the Director of Recruiting. Granted we're seeing some improvements for the 2018 and beyond classes but none of that is a given given today's athlete definition of "commitment". Shocky needs to get this thing moving in the right direction after 5 years of steady downward regression or perhaps someone else needs to give it a try. Results matter!

We're not 11th or 12th until we finish 11th or 12th. F the prognosticators. Last year we finished 4th. Still plenty of room for improvement tho.

That's awesome. Bring back some good Icelandic talent (though I think they are more known for soccer these days) and stay away from the rotten shark.

I recommend the movie Land Ho! for anyone who has been to Iceland or thinking about going there. Very solid movie (81% Rotten Tomatoes rating).

Honestly petaluma, have you ever read any other college message boards? Do you think theyre all universally respectful of Cal or anyone else? Lighten the **** up. I don't personally agree with half the **** Shocky says, and personally choose not to express myself in the way he does, but I recognize and appreciate his 1000% devotion to Cal. We share that common bond, and on a fucking internet forum his rabid hyperbolic fandome is appreciated. Particularly around here where every other post seems to be some equivocation about why Cal is really no better that [fill in the blank] pos school. In real life, I know people who've attended some of the schools Shocky blasts. Hell I personally attended one of them before I transferred to Cal. Do you see me getting my feelings hurt? No, I'm able to take it for what it is: a joke at best and an incomplete caricature at worst. ON THE FUCKING INTERNET! He's not in your living room or showing up at your work. Frankly your sensitivity to his rightful trashing of Oregon and Altman says a lot more about your insecurities about your son's degree than it does about Shocky.

+1000. I don't get all of the butt hurt over Shocky's comments (not just Petaluma). And if they bother people so much, put Shocky on "ignore" or simply don't read his posts. I want more passionate Cal fans, not less.

No. I'm exactly right in my choice of monsters. Anyone who puts down students, regardless of where they choose to study or for what reason(s) is a monster of a human being. Your tired campaign of attacking other schools and students is childish and an embarrassment to the university that you (supposedly) hold so dear. You pump up kids being recruited to Cal and if they select another school you become an attack dog railing at their (made up) flaws and failings all because they chose another school. Even when they choose Cal and either reconsider or transfer later you put them down. Cal isn't for everyone and you choose to ignore that because it doesn't suit you.

You've attacked my son for choosing Oregon and by extension his mother and me. He graduated with honors and will be going on to get a Masters. His roommates over the past 2 years are both pre-med and will be onto medical school after a year each of practical work in the medical field. You should hope that one day when you need medical care that one of them is available to care for you. Oregon grads all three who will succeed in life at high levels. Sharing the shame of being called truck stop workers by someone not worthy of their time.

Finally, I was disgusted by your attempt to link genocide to a college hoops coach. I hope that the mods removed that disgusting photo but I have zero faith in their ability to police this board so I assume whatever tiny amount of decency you may have in you caused a moment of reflection that helped you decide that it was a stupid mistake on your part to have posted it in the first place.

I've tried talking to you and I've tried encouraging the mods to police your posting. The only effort on their part to date was your timeout for attacking a kid who chose Cal. A strange juxtaposition that. Since the mods have abdicated their responsibility to actively police you, I can only hope that you might come around. History tells me otherwise. It's too bad because this has been a good board for many years but you are ruining it and I may just have to eliminate visiting here as a result.

souse, we watched land ho! & while it provided a lot of scenic points of interest of the nordic island nation, listening to 2 old white dudes talking & talking about nothing for 90 minutes was kinda painful

look i don't make movies (at least not commercial movies for public distribution) but i kinda think it would've been a better movie if the outdated (which is odd for a move released in 2014) music soundtrack was replaced & if the lead roles were played by 3 curvy brunette yoga females with flat stomachs or something

Glad you gave it a shot. I can't deny that the movie is heavy on old white dudes and light on flat-bellied yoginis but it's still a great movie. it's light on mutts too but then again, Iceland is among the most ethnically and culturally homogeneous countries in the world. Brace yourself for tons of white folk! That said, your point about it being painful listening to old white guys talk is well-taken. Probably how a lot of college athletes feel about reading message boards.

Enjoy your trip and the wonderful scenery. Looking forward to reading about it.

jordan, glad to hear you & your dad dion are gonna cut your list to maybe 10 finalists in early september

perhaps your college criteria will include your relationship/trust with the head coach (steve alford & dana altman are both documented rapist enablers), the style of play (the donut boy of tuscon's half court motion isn't the best system for you to showcase your open court abilities), the academic reputation of the institution (kansas, oregon, arizona, nevada & gonzaga are academically mediocre), your connection with the strength & conditioning coach (you lack nba strength right now, jordan jackson is the most energized body/mind builder on the west coast) & the driving distance from roseville on gamedays (berkeley is closer than reno, st johns forget about it)

after posting this on the washington insider board, hawkshoops1 (his son is a starter at oregon state, he got a 3.4 gpa in high school, we converse thru private messages at times) has made the following observations (his son was recruited with an actionable offer by altman) re: his 1st hand interactions with the oregon basketball organization's head coach re: the sexual assaults:

HawksHoops1 wrote:
The fans and school continue to not only turn a blind eye to this but support Altman with all their might.

Somehow they justify this as Bigby-Williams not being a heavy contributor so it doesnt matter much.

It seems completely lost on them that a coach continuing to be completely indifferent to such serious behavior by his players is a huge character flaw and an embarrassment to the University of Oregon.

I will never forget the comments the coaching staff made to us in the middle of the last sexual assault his players were accused of. So its very unsurprising to me that they continue to be in this situation.

But hey, they are winning so thats all that matters right. Just sooooo much more to life than that and its sad that Oregon doesnt do the right thing and take a tougher stance

HawksHoops1 wrote:
Victim blaming at its best, you have to be better than that bro.

Fact of the matter is Altman brought in Austin knowing he had a previous sexual assault to his name. And that dude was the ring leader of the trio accused.

Altman had knowledge of this event and still decided to play the players involved.

No different in this instance with Bigby Williams. Altman either knew or failed to follow up and still played a player accused of sexual assault.

You do realize your school paid a settlement to the victim right?

The reason this continues to be an issue is the indifference that the coaching staff seems to have towards these situations. They learned nothing from the last one.

There is absolutely no way any of those kids wins their lawsuit, not gonna happen. They should thank the lord they are not behind bars.

HawksHoops1 wrote:

Shocky is actually on the money with several missteps that Altman and his players have had during their run. The Woods deal was especially egregious, should have been the first warning sign that this guy was willing to bring low character kids into a program for the sake of some wins.

OK but......

Cal extended a coach who failed to monitor/investigate/understand/probe about the nature of sickle cell trait. Ted's death was ENTIRELY avoidable as any parent (raises hand) whose kid has been screened for it....and if not screened it should be a matter of course for any football program that puts its students first.

I dislike (intensely) Altman. I also think that there is plenty of blame that could be cast all over college sports and some of it lies with our former (thankfully) head football coach.

PS. For those interested kids with sickle cell TRAIT can compete and do just fine. For reasons not yet understood fully they RARELY can experience symptoms that look like heat stroke but are actually very dangerous. You call 911. If you kid is of AA descent you owe it to yourself to screen him/her, explain what they should do and then just keep an eye on the weather and keep their coaches in the loop.
