So the winner of the Bay Area Championship for this season will be the winner of the USF vs St. Mary's series. Those should be tough and competitive games.

I kept looking at Frankie Ferrari and I kept asking myself, " that guy reminds me of someone famous." it finally came to me: Lee Harvey Oswald. Spitting image. Did you see the elbow that Ferrari landed on the Stanford defender??Drew blood. Quite the assassin that kid. We took Austin for two years rather than Ferrari for one year. No question Ferrari is the better player but two is better than one. I honestly believe all our pac-12 wins this year will be at home. I can't see a single road win. Different story next year.

what I don't understand about stanford is they recruit well year after year

they have two very good forwards (one is projected as a first round NBA pick this year), the other a stretch 4, and a very good PG, and they are all sophs. They have a ton of size, including 7 foot senior and solid center Sharma, a good freshmen class and enough upper classmen that they can't claim they are 'young'

Then there is AZ with 4/5 stars across the roster who needed a last minute 3 from a rarely used player for a 2 point win over a bad UC Davis team

On the other hand, WSU looks better than last year, despite the transfer out of their very good PG (who beat us at the buzzer last year)

then there is OSU who's 3 best players are the sons of the coaches. Unless they have more sons, look for a drop off from them once they start leaving (either that or Coach Tinkle will fire some assistant coaches, and hire new ones who coincidentally will have star basketball sons.

As much as it pains me to say this, getting a degree from a prestigious private university for free that costs everyone else $150,000+ is a decent carrot to dangle. The only down side being that for the rest of your life you are an @$$hole.

I agree with you. USF is a very tough defensive team, mostly guys who have played together. They have size, depth, decent shooting and Ferrari. St Marys has some problems. The games will be close, but I think USF wins. Best team in the Bay Area right now, with St Mary's 2nd, and Cal and Stanford fighting it out for 3rd.

Dear Hoop: also, please check their football recruiting . They recruit nation-wide just as they do in basketball. As Monty told me, every kid wants to go to Stanford. If Stanford ever gets another coach like Monty, watch out!!!
