After 14 games at CCSF, Austin McCullogh is averaging 15.1 ppg, FG 59.6%, 3pt FG 53.7%, FT 88.2%, and is CCSF's 2nd leading scorer.

After 15 games at CCSF, Deschon Winston is averaging 12.3 ppg, FG 41.7%, 3pt FG 33.3%, FT 80.0%, and is CCSF's 4th leading scorer.

What an improvement from the days spent watching Cal games from the far end of the Cal bench. Hey, CalBear80, could this possibly be mostly or partly due to the coaching of the great Golden Bear, Justin Labagh? (Just putting in a plug for Justin's consideration for the Cal job, in case you win your argument and get the current coach fired)

I always assumed Austin was a good shooter and he had legit D1 size, but it's funny in pre-game warm ups he was pretty average. Then in games, I thought it was more a function of him getting such little PT that his 0-10 stats were either due to loss of confidence, or just never getting in a rhythm.

But I thought he wasn't getting on the floor because his defense was terrible. Reminds me a little of Powers, another walk on with good shooting but poor defense. Thing is, I am remembering Powers as a junior and senior, where Austin was only a freshmen.

Regarding Winston, I thought he was a poor shooter, but a serviceable passer, but way too turnover prone and poor on defense. His turnovers were not because of passing, but because he was too weak with the ball. Pac12 defenders just ate him up, and Pac12 guards were just too strong, quick for him to defend. Again, as an undersized freshmen, that's not that surprising, and I was disappointed but hopeful when we signed him. Actually he reminded me of Chauca, who also wasn't strong with the ball. But I thought Chauca was a way better shooter, and at least equal as a passer.

But what little I've seen of junior college hoops, I can see both of them doing well as the players generally lack size and defense is all over the board. Some of the JC defense looks as bad as some HS defenses.

Anyway, I think going to a good JC program like SFCC is good for their development and confidence, and gives them time to improve physically. Both should be able to find a D1 home, although based on those JC stats, and the fact that Austin has legit size, I'd expect Austin to be the more attractive recruit. Austin also has the higher upside to make a true impact in D1 by his Junior/Senior year as he can improve his defense by then
