calbear80. Now that you are calling Wyking Jones by name, I feel okay in asking you, what did you think of our coaching staff in last night's Cheez-it Bowl? Even though its a different sport, it will help me get a basis of your rating system. Please respond at your earliest convenience.

I'm not calbear80 and I don't watch much football but I'll comment anyway

Looking at the ESPN replays I see all 5 of our interceptions (by 2 quarterbacks) were on balls thrown to receivers closely covered by 2 or more defenders. 2 were thrown on the run under heavy pressure, 1 stepping up under some pressure, and 2 under no pressure. None were tipped.

Interceptions have been a season-long problem with no obvious improvement even after using many different quarterbacks and receivers. So I'm inclined to put the bulk of the blame on the coaches for predictable plays or poor player preparation.

One possible solution is shaking up the offensive coaching roster and giving the offensive coordinator a free hand. Reducing my donation is not likely to have much effect since it has been zero for the last 15 years.

Appreciate your comments stu. Basically, the bottom line is its really easy to blame coaching, but when you don't have the players that can execute losses are inevitable.

IMHO most if not all of those interceptions were bad reads, not bad throws. The QB should have thrown those balls away or taken the sack. Possibly due to lack of experience, we'll see if they get better.

FWIW I give the coaches most of the credit for the amazing turnaround on defense. From horrible to respectable to excellent in two years is an amazing accomplishment.

Back to basketball, I also credit Cuonzo for helping us defensively and criticize him for our apparently aimless offense. Wyking has neither experienced players nor 5-star talent so I'm willing to give him more time.

Except we were saying the exact same thing about our defense two years ago. And then we changed coaches...

I remember just two years ago most on this board complained that the prior staff over-recruited the wide-receiver position....

As they well should.

Sorry friends about the late reply. Things have been pretty hectic for me with my travels (10 countries in November, 5 countries in December and already 2 countries in January).

BTW, if you have not been to Sri Lanka and Maldives, try them, you will like them!

Go Bears (from Maldives)!

P.S. December was not kind to the Golden Bears. It started with yet another Big Game Football loss (I was there for that heart break) and ended with WBB loss to Harvard (at least that is kind of my other school). And, please notice that I didn't even mention MBB. Let us hope for a glorious January and a great 2019 for our beloved Golden Bears in all sports.

Did you dive the Maldives? It's on my bucket list (off to Lembeh in a couple of weeks).

Ursa, no, I did not dive in Maldives for three reasons: too short a visit, don't know how to dive, and, the reason, too chicken!

I owe you a response to your question of about a month ago (my bad, never responded), and, also, I want to talk to you about your previous trip to Asia Minor (stans). I'll send you a PM and we chat.

Go Bears!
