bearister,

I challenge James Holzhauer to put his answer to that one in the form of question. The fake smile would
come off his face real quick...or not

We win most battles with Corvallis, but I am not sure Berkeley even has any German food, unless Top Dog counts, in which case we kick everyone's ass (except maybe Wisconsin?).

it's even difficult to find a lot of German food in Germany. But if you are with a local, they can take you to some great places

I love Germany. I just came back from a two week tour of Germany watching Bundesliga (soccer) matches. I will be estatic if Lars comes to Cal.

Germany is my second (after US, of course) or third most favorite country in the world (I have been to well over 100 countries).

German Engineering: Amazing (love MBZ, BMW and Porsche).

German Beer: Excellent.

German Food: Not so much.

If you have not dined at Berkeley's award winning restaurant Gaumenkitzel, 2121 San Pablo (2 blocks south of University) make plans to do so! Great food, good beer.

Speisekammer in Alameda is pretty good, and not too far to go.

Wow, I'm not normally a fan of German food, but that looks really good. I'm sure Lars wil try it sometime if/when he becomes a Bear.

His name was (is???) Hartmut Ortmann,
but don't sweat the last name.

I posted that we probably couldn't have more diverse names than LARS and KAREEM.

My mind went back 20 years or so........to.....wait for it....Helmut Ortman.

So what's really diametirically opposed to "Hartmut" as a first name???.....Damn near anything..

Yipes, I took a look at the 1988-89 roster. One of Hartmut's teammates was EricBear.

Between Cal, Moraga, and Corvallis, isn't the recent past showing most International European recruits going to Moraga? Hopefully with Fox, it will now be different?

UC Berkeley has a stellar reputation overseas. St Mary's - not.
Fox is doing a great job recruiting internationally. If St Mary's was a preferred destination, that's over.

We're all perhaps assuming that these guys (Big German in particular) are good students. I've found that every country has their so-so students and even their lunkheads. As many a German told me, back in the 20th century, shrugging their shoulders, "Hey, we DID lose the War..." (used to explain a number of things)

Germany is the most impressive EU country I've visited. Sometimes stereotypes have a basis is truth. Generally I find Germany to just work. Highly educated population, great public transportation, clean cities, courteous service., strong economy, good culture, friendly, helpful people

The above things, plus high percentage of English speakers and safe compared to many EU (and compared to US) countries, makes Germany my favorite EU country to visit
