I think Lonzo was the best part of the deal, I like his game and how he sees the court.... sure, he J is odd ball but he knows that and will try to fix it this summer. Sure his Dad's bombastic hovering still is part of the package..but Lonzo vision cannot be taught...

Lakers should go after Kyrie hard... if they get Kyrie, they would be the clear fav to win ring in 2020..

AD to Lakers and even more so if Kyrie signs up, gives KD more reason to resign with GSW. The biggest issue he is looking to move on, he took easy way out to get his rings.. so, if Lakers load up, his re siging with GSW, he becomes white Knight to fight off the Darth Vadar..

Who cares? The NBA has become a stupid circus. If you want to follow basketball, stick to college. The NBA is just plain boring.
Agree the NCAAs were worth watching the year despite having the best one year players money can buy. Also, if you want to watch bad basketball there alway is the Pac. That said, I hardly call the Warriors boring.

I see a back-up PG whose got some length to play some effective defense as his ceiling.
I think you're already straight - the bolded pretty much sums up what most pundits seem to be saying two years later (many over predicted his impact when drafted - happens a lot). I think he's an excellent back up to Jrue Holiday or play alongside him at times. I don't think anyone is thinking they can build a dynasty around him.
My perception is quite different than yours as it pertains to media/pundits take on Ball. There is a group that is assertive in their claims Ball sucks, but the folks with a microphone are pretty hesitant to render him a bust, or a "back up at best". I've heard many the past 6 months talk about him glowingly. '

He's slated as the starter alongside Jrue Holiday right now. Though I think NO may trade JH.

I think NO is a playoff team next year.

Lonzo's stats and efficiency were basically flat from year 1 to year 2. A tad regression in REB and AST (not a big deal), a 1-2 point uptick in 3pt and FG%. Same putrid 40% from FT.

Again, somebody likes Lonzo's game and points to nothing other than "he sees the floor". How many shots did he create for his teammates in the halfcourt

It's funny how people can see the exact same thing, yet have completely opposite reactions. I find all the constant ticky-tack foul whistles for a player barely touching another has made the NCAA version extremely hard to watch. I like how there's uncalled contact in the NBA. I'd say over the past five years I've gone from watching mostly college to now watching mostly NBA.

I guess people's different reactions to the same events are why we have 2 successful political parties.

But that begs the question - between the NCAA and NBA, which organization is the Republicans and which is the Democrats?

please keep the politics out of this thread. I know you were being humorous but this thread will get derailed quickly.

I find the officiating, particularly in the NBA, very detrimental to the viewing experience. Officiating is not a job I'd want -- it's thankless and extremely difficult -- but there's no consistency, and they are very prone to being manipulated.

I'm with 75bear in that I feel the NBA has become more watchable and the NCAA is becoming worse. However, I would add two major points:

  • First, I follow Cal and W's. So I'm skewing at extremes to reflect both the worst and best of each institution. In other words, my perspective ain't worth much outside of the bay area.
  • Second, I feel officiating is seriously threatening both NBA and NCAA as well as Pro and College Football and slowly getting to that point in soccer. In every instance, officiating has become too skewed to the drama junkies and away from keeping the flow of the game moving. Ideally, the officials should be rarely considered unless things get out of hand. I understand that my view is in the minority and both NBA and NFL have adopted the policy that the in depth review and 'getting the call right' bring in many fans who are not purists of either sport - and that the purists will tolerate the annoyance of officiating. However, we've got to be getting to the breaking point.

It was a joke :-)

I remember when the Lakers gave up 7 players (or was it 8) to get Karem. No one remembers those guys
One of them eventually became the Warriors head coach

Not only have Lonzo's efficiency stats been flat but they're well below the nba average too. His PERs have been 12.5 and 11.7 with a league average of 15. His shooting numbers, eFG%, TS%, FTr are all garbage. The one element of his game that was surpassed expectations has been on defense where he's surprisingly been a little better than average. I'm glad the Lakers jettisoned him.

He's just never gonna be a plus player in the NBA and no team needs the absurd family drama either.

He has to learn to shoot.
TheSouseFamily

He does but I'm not sure that something like shooting can always be taught or learned. Some guys just don't have the hand geometry or the feel or the hand-eye skill (or whatever it is) to ever do it well. He could put up 5,000 shots a day under expert guidance and I still don't he'll ever be a shooter. Same with someone like JHD, unfortunately. And why Shaq was a 53% career FT shooter.

If you're a Laker fan you hope not. Dude is washed up from his injuries.
