Well, it wasn't about the money. Wonder if he felt bullied by Draymond.

Nah. More like he felt like he could do more individually in a different system and that the Warriors would always be Curry's team. So he and Kyrie Irving both set out to find a team on which each of them could be "the man." LOL. I predict no rings for those guys.

I predict KD already has a two. I checked. I'm right.

If it's true that he leaves the Warriors, I bet their brain trust breathes a sigh of relief, given his injury status, though they would never admit this, publicly.

The Nets will get a lot of buzz out of this, but I doubt it will pay off for them.

KD + Kyrie seems like a pretty combustible situation. Durant is sensitive and Kyrie is a weirdo.

But I guess you never know. They will have talent for sure.

Now that Durant is gone. Is there any reason why the Warriors can't use the 30 million that they would have paid him not to play this year, to sign another free agent or 2.

Yeah, this might actually be good for the Warriors. Durant clearly wasn't happy this past season, and he was never going to be "the guy" for the Dubs. Whether or not he will for the Nets will be seen in 2-3 years. Now the Warriors can move on and restock the team without him.

Yes, the salary cap.

with Luxury tax, Lacob saved, what, like $90 million next year on a player that wasn't going to set foot on the court and may never be an elite player again?

GS will be fine next year. They just need to feed Jordan Bell the rock.

If the W's could get Brooklyn to cooperate, they could sign and trade KD and get a $30 million "trade exception" in return that the W's could use to acquire a player making up to $30 million/year. But, Brooklyn seemingly has little incentive to cooperate unless the W's throw a 1st round pick into the deal, which seems unwise given that the W's first round picks in the next couple of years might be pretty decent picks.

They better hope so. If he goes elsewhere, they'll have a lot of cap space with few players left to sign.

Warriors sign D'Angelo Russell and trade Andre Iguodala. Very weird to now have 3 max salary guards - how does that work? I realize Klay is out for the year, but how do you play all 3 when healthy?

Yup. When a team does a sign and trade, it is hard-capped (can't go over) for the next season.

Cousins was gone anyway, he's reportedly getting a huge one-year deal, probably from the Knicks.

I don't love Russell, but I love trading Iggy, and GS will need scoring help next year.

Didn't realize it would mean no Looney or JB.

Really interested in some other salary cap guru examining what the warriors just did because I don't quite understand.

To get Russell, they would have to trade an equal value to the Nets. Iggy makes 17mil and change, while is appears Russell is signing for almost 30. And the warriors are getting additional players (and their salary).

So is Durant part of the trade? I don't see what the warriors are trading to equalize salaries.

What exactly is this hard cap Duncan is referring to? (Added: looks like the cap for a sign and trade is 6 million over the tax apron - so that appears to be about $138 million).

He also says warriors cannot pay Draymond more than $99m/4 years next summer due to the trade. This deal makes no sense if they can't resign Green. But after reading a bit about sign and trades and the hard cap, the restriction seems to last only a year.

I'm hearing the Nets are signing Russell and then trading to Warriors.

I'm not worried about filling out the roster. They got bodies under contract and 3 rookies coming in. I like the fact the Dubs just got a lot younger. I'm hoping Livingstone opts for retirement since he was not as effective as he was in previous years. Iggy's body was failing him. I'm assuming Draymond will continue Russells leadership development. Guy is 23 and everything is trending upward for him - scoring, assists, 3 pt shooting percentage.

Not sure what Sean Marks is doing to Nets. Kyrie is a cancer and Durants best years are behind him. I think KD is going to look back and realize his resentment to Dubs was silly.

Maybe management is hoping that Dwight Jones finally lives up to the potential that they see in him.

I was just wondering how much it amounted to. Thx

He left money on the table by leaving OKC for GS, and then again by signing short term deals.
It all adds up to a lot of dough, though less so after taxes.

Andre Iguodala, a cornerstone of the Golden State Warriors' dynasty, is being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Dubs are reportedly sending a first-round pick to the Grizzlies that is protected through picks one through four in 2024, protected No. 1 overall in 2025 and unprotected in 2026.

Tim Kawakami of The Athletic further clarified that the Warriors are trading just one first-round pick, not three.
Iguodala, who joined the Warriors in 2013, has been part of five Western Conference title winners and three NBA championship teams for Golden State. The 35-year-old guard/forward averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 23.2 minutes last year.

Wojnarowski hinted at a possible Iguodala exodus after reporting that the Warriors and Brooklyn Nets agreed to a sign-and-trade deal for point guard D'Angelo Russell, landing him in the Bay Area for four years and $117 million.

That trade has reportedly occurred, helping pave the way for Russell's Golden State arrival.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports also contributed additional context to the Iguodala deal:
"Andre Iguodala was informed by Warriors early last week that he could be traded to unload salary in event Kevin Durant moved on, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Today's trade to Memphis wasn't a shock."
Although Iguodala is now a Grizzly, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that he could eventually return to California, albeit farther south.

"Iguodala is a former Rob Pelinka client," Shelburne tweeted. "If his stay in Memphis is short, don't be surprised to see [Los Angeles Lakers] get involved."
Pelinka is the Lakers' general manager and a former agent.

Iguodala was a jack-of-all-trades for the Warriors, capable of defending guards and forwards and playing anywhere from point guard to a stretch 4 on offense. He was arguably the Warriors' best player in the 2015 NBA Finals victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
He's a tremendous loss on and off the court on a Warriors team that should see more exits.

NBA salary cap guru Nate Duncan explained that Golden State only has $18.2 million for nine roster spots post-Russell deal. He further clarified that means players such as Kevon Looney, DeMarcus Cousins, Quinn Cook and possibly Jordan Bell would be making their departures from the Bay Area.

Ultimately, the Warriors will have a much different look next season, especially with Klay Thompson recovering from a torn ACL that should keep him out for an extended period of time.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic listed out the current roster: Steph Curry, Thompson, Russell, Draymond Green, Alfonzo McKinnie, Jacob Evans, Damian Jones, Jordan Poole, Eric Paschall, Shabazz Napier, Treveon Graham and Alen Smailagic.

Some rather significant parts are still around in Curry and Green, but as of now, the Warriors will likely be hard-pressed to return to the NBA Finals for the sixth straight season.

Warriors 2 separate trades:

1)

Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania report late Sunday that the Nets are trading D'Angelo Russell, Shabazz Napier and Treveon Graham to the Warriors in a sign-and-trade.

As of 1 a.m., it was unclear who or what the Nets will be getting back in the trade. Russell is getting a four-year, $117 million contract as part of the trade.

2)

Golden State is trading Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies, league source tells ESPN. Warriors are sending (only one of the following) a 2024 protected first-round pick in the 2024 (protected 1-4), 2025 (protected 1) and 2026 unprotected.
