My nephew the Wildcat alum sent me this:

https://zonazealots.com/2019/07/01/arizona-basketball-top-california-point-guard-aidan-mahaney-offer/

I'm just amazed that Arizona continues to interest guys with Miller under the microscope. I'd hate to lose out to them in our own backyard. Its early for 2022 players but that doesn't seem to stop AZ.

got skills. love his savvy ball handling. lots of players can learn from him from how he uses change of speed to get to his spots

so he is in the east bay, has been on a california state championship team and Cal hasn't offered?

Nothing will happen to Miller. This "investigation" doesn't affect recruiting at all.

He will be a sophomore in September.
He is 6'2", from Lafayette, and won the state championship at Campo with his brother Carter.

Is Mark Fox and his staff in touch with this local rising star? What does the staff say about contact with him?

He's 6'2 per Maxpreps, which sounds about right. I saw him play twice this year, and not even close to 6'6, unless he grew 4 inches in the last few months

And Campolindo is apparently getting an incoming freshman who is also a national level player -- they're a team worth seeing, as Aidan's older brother is also very good, and their 6-4 post is a junior. Well coached by Steve Dyer, who went to Campolindo ...

I have fond memories of my time coaching the girls' there -- we won a couple state titles when I was an assistant, and had some good teams when I was a head coach. It's a very athletically-oriented area, and kids and parents understand success.

For old-timers only: when Hugh McElhenny was drafted out of the Univ of Washington by the 49ers, it was rumored that he had to take a pay cut. Very possible because, in those days, the 49er owners were cheaper than used cars going for 50.00 on van Ness ave.

just confirmed: in a wide-ranging interview when he was 75 years old, mcElhenny confirmed that he took an enormous pay cut when he joined the 49ers from thge Univ of Washington. In those days ( prior to 1955 or so) all the major schools paid their stars money, gave them clothes, cars, paid-for apts and other assorted goodies which I cannot repeat here. He was all set to go to USC but USC reneged on a promise to pay him for watering the grass around Tommy Trojan. Did Cal cheat along with thge other schools prior to this date??I honestly don't know..any thoughts??

And if you are not of the vintage, pro football at that time was just starting to even be able to hold a candle to college football. And then the world changed. Like McElhenny a lot of college players faced the same pay cuts.

You're referring to the end of the PCC. Washington, then UCLA, then USC, then Cal were all implicated in organized programs to pay players through groups like The Bruin Bench, South Seas fund and San Francisco Gridiron club. Then Cal and UCLA came up with a 5 point plan to remove themselves from PCC. Eventually PCC disbanded and the Pac 8 formed within a few years.

Then uMontana was dropped from the PCC in 1950, and
uIdaho was dropped in 1959 when the PCC was dissolved.
Enter the new *AAWU -- Cal, uDub, Ucla, $uSC, and tFarm.
Add WSu in 1962, and uO and OSu in 1964.
