While I always enjoy hanging out on this board, once in awhile, I actually learn useful things. It was earlier this football season when I learned on Bear Insider that Pac-12 Bay Area is now in HD on Comcast/Xfinity on 1330. Just learning that nugget made my yearly subscription worthwhile. (even if I found out on a free board). I don't think I would have realized that yet without this board, and for those who haven't, perhaps this thread will serve as a reminder.

People should know that every home football or basketball game will be televised on Pac-12, either the national channel or the regional, unless it is on a broadcast partner. I did not like it when too many basketball games were only available in SD, but now with 1330, it is all good!

If you have Comcast, you can select Cal Bears Basketball and Football as favorites and set it to record all games. No more looking to see what channel it will be or searching for replays.

Can we get this channel on Bay Area Comcast?

Edit-just read down to the end of the thread and see the answer appears to be yes. Thanks all.

Have you removed all sharp items from your home and garage? Thinking we may need to call the authorities to do a wellness check at your residence.

So for the rest of the board, this is what is commonly referred to as a backhanded compliment right?

Is there some trick to getting this mythical 1330 channel on Comcast in the Bay Area?

I see 1329. Not seeing 1330.

Yes, there's a difference. Keep an eye peeled on this thread and I'll see what I can dig up. No promises.

Well I figured out my own question after talking to Comcast.

Apparently if you have TiVo, they don't have 1330 on their channel list. So I have to call TiVo and put in a channel request so they can add it.

I love TiVo (Dvr is so much better than xfinity's) but their failure to add the Disney + app and the Apple TV app and now this is making it difficult to keep supporting them.

So I found an option, but the hosting site has just NOTHING but incredibly graphic porno for the banner ads flanking the stream. So i don't want to post it here, but if anyone wants a viewing option just PM me and I'll link. And you've been warned.

It's been awhile since i used an X1 so maybe they made improvements. But from what I remember

TiVo has 6 tuners (which is huge for me cause I'm constantly taping stuff)

TiVo has more capacity

Way better functionality (like skip mode and quick mode)

I like the TiVo interface better. But that's just preference

For me it's cheaper since I have DVRs on three different TVs. So I can get a TiVo mini which are affordable compared to renting a dvr from xfinity for each tv

But the biggest thing for me was how slow the X1 was. Maybe they've made improvements. But for me the TiVo is just so much faster. And doesn't constantly lag like the X1.
My friends have the Comcast equipment and it's amazing to me how long it takes just to change the channel.

The downside is that TiVo will probably be extinct in 3-5 years. They got cut off from xfinity on demand. And didn't get either the Disney plus app or Apple TV app. Which, to me, is crazy.

Thanks Ducky. Although I feel I watch more TV than I should, I watch nothing live anymore and I haven't had any issues with the number of tuners (4 I think) or capacity.

XI does have 30-second advance and 15-sec back modes among others who's cheat-codes can be found online.

The interface is clunky, except when using voice commands.

The lag with the X-1 used to drive me crazy, but the latest version only bogs down when the batteries are low.

Things I like:
  • Voice command, which typically shortcuts you straight to where you want to go
  • Being able to automatically record all of my favorite sports teams, regardless of the channel they are on
  • Being able to search for movies and shows that are free to me (Netflix, Amazon, HBO, On Demand, etc) in one place

Things I hate:
  • Dealing with Comcast

Definitely needed that laugh after that game. And for the record I resisted the XXX temptations and spent most of the second half seasoning a skillet. Fox was pretty *****y during the postgame and I enjoyed that.

Our players need to learn that when your big guy seals the small guy off, it's actually okay to throw it over the top and let him get the easy two. Lars may not be a huge defensive or rebounding presence, but he can do that. Kelly even moreso.

I'm pretty sure the X1 has capability to record 6 shows at once.

I had a TiVo early in the century, then needed to get rid of it to work effectively with the Comcast box. Then Comcast got, in theory, seamless with TiVo, and since there were so many things I liked better about TiVo, I looked at going back. But I couldn't get a box that would enable me to hook up to my DVD recorder, so I couldn't burn any recordings. There were other pros and cons to switching at the time, but I stuck with Comcast.

Now that Comcast has reduced some of the seamlessness of having Comcast TiVo, and now that the Netfilx and Amazon apps on Comcast work well, I'm not sure I'll go back, even though there are things I still love about TiVo when I manage to watch with someone who still has it. TiVo still has twice the capacity of the X1, but I mostly can deal with that. Having the fast forward/rewind include "lightning" speed mostly helps (it is occasionally clunkier than it should be). Not having "on demand" wouldn't be a big deal with TiVo, except when I'm watching a sports program where I could go back to the start if I forgot to record. I don't know that TiVo with Comcast, now that there is no "On Demand" has any ability to do that. The Comcast interface is overall clunkier. With the hacks for 30 second skip and 15 second back, I have the most important things that are better about default TiVo over Comcast.

The biggest reason I would have preferred TiVo since I made the decision to stick with Comcast is the ability to set up remote recording. At first, Comcast didnt have it. Then it did. Then TiVo's international court action stopped Comcast for a couple of years. Now it is back.

I MOSTLY hate dealing with Comcast, but I've had some acceptable experiences lately.

The most important change recently was getting Channel 1330 so I can watch those games that are only on Pac-12 Bay Area in HD. I'll never know if the *****ing letter I wrote after they pulled Bay Area off HD helped (I didn't indicate I didn't like the prior situation either, where the national Pac-12 channel was only available in SD).

The post by ducky isn't making me want to ever reconsider going back to TiVo, even if Comcast is far from perfect.
