Most teams play in a holiday tournament. Long ago I heard that the full tournament only counts as one game for scheduling purposes, and I assume that's still the case. It explains the ridiculous format of the 2k Empire Classic, where the 4 power conference teams host the 4 weak teams, then get to meet for the final two rounds, whether or not they win or lose. It's cost effective, getting 4 games in per team, without having to schedule them all back-to-back.
